Premier Resonator snare drum liner?

Loading...

Hello all

I'm looking at buying a Premier Resonator kit. However, the snare drum appears not to have the Resonator liner. Could anyone tell me if they had one originally or not please? I believe they didn't have the liner, but I'd like to be sure before I buy. Pic attached. Thanks a lot :-)

I believe there was a Resonator Snare drum. Not sure about the production and if one came with all Resonator sets. Maybe Blair or someone knows for sure. Possibly the original Kenny Clarke kits had one ?

Not sure either but I'm cleaning up a Black Shadow Resonator kit that has had the same owner from new and the original matching snare does not have a liner. The owner never removed it either

Thanks guys, that's really helpful and I think confirmed by initial thoughts that some (if maybe not all) Resonator snares did not have the liner.

I really appreciate your input :-) If anyone has any more info to add that would be great too. Thanks a lot!

There definitely are Resonator snares with inserts that I believe came with some of the original Resonator kits (those that didn't come with a 2000 model instead), like the pic shown. From the research i'm digging up right now the Resonator II snares seem the be single shelled w/ those bloody big weirdly shaped diecast rims, though the Project One snare from this period has a double shell that looks non-removable with an 'in' vent hole and an 'out' vent hole. As I keep googling I have come acroos a thread here: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=4837

They do seem to be rare though.

Later Reso drums ..the shells were painted inside the same color as outside of drum....That's what I have heard...anyway...

PS..I have a Reso snare FS like the one pictured above..if anyone is looking for one!

There was a 'special' version of the '37' snare drum (the '37' being a 2000 but with a conventional throw off and brushed finish) available c. 1976 which had a birch inner liner. This model was soon withdrawn and the next Premier snare drum to have an inner liner was the P1 in 1984.

this is slightly off topic, but a matter of curiosity for you premier experts.

what happens when you need to fix a Resonator series drum? for example - what if you need to replace a lug? can the inner ply be easily removed and re installed?

Do I understand correctly that you mean there would been Resonator snares made during these years without a Resonator liner?
