Hello deansdrums59

I really enjoyed your story and you told it so very well

as for the drum kit they look awesome

I recently failed in negotiations on a very similar wood/fiberglaas kit in red oyster

That kit was nowhere near the pristine example that you have proudly shared

I love white marine pearl drums of any make yours are super duper nice

Good luck with them ..Kenwood

Almost, almost exactly like my story, only three years later. Same Pearl set, same sizes, only in the red color. Mine was used, but my upgrade was from a Royce and Camber cymbals, to this Pearl set and Zildjian 14" New Beats, 16" crash, and 22" ride... My first play to was Barry Manilow Live.I still have much of that set, but upgraded to Pearl BRL lugs that fit perfectly, and a lacquer Gold Top paint job that looks great. Fiberglass is a b**** to paint over, all the darn pinholes that have to be filled.

Thanks for your response Rik. Daybreak live is still my fav off that double album....Royce, at least, sounded American...Cambers...tough one. I'm still in love with the clean chick of the new beats. That sound has not grown old to me to this day. If you have time, why not post some pics...dKeep on Pl

Barry Manilow! Kansas! Boston! 3 of my favorites. Love the stories!

Thanks, Larry. Manilow, like the Carpenters would sadly be laughed off any top chart today. Their loss. A true musician recognizes what good music they made. band2

THAT is a very cool story. And those Pearls!!! Wow!! You have taken great care of those drums. Gotta love the 18" floor tom too. They must be a blast to play. I'd say Mom and Dad did very well. BTW I had the same Pearl hi hat stand. I really liked it too. Rock solid.

Thanks FFR. On the heavy side, yes they are solid...if you were nearby, you'd be welcomed to give them a work out. The 18 incher really wallops a punch! d.Keep on Pl

What a great story and what a great set of drums. Thanks for sharing.Burger Kin

You are most welcome, Teverson. I was hesitant that my story might be a bore or was too long. Thanks for taking the time. dband2

really enjoyed that story. I'm sure most of us have been there. My hated drums were Apollos that the salesman talked my mom into buying. I felt the same as you. I really hated those drums and the cymbals. The hihats had a bad habit of inverting and the bass pedal was in a permanet bent state. My dad wanted me to play the Sax and was not too happy that my mom spent $400 for the kit. A lot of money for us in those days.

So what did you end up playing? :)

Great story Bill. The words "Zim Gar" always makes me smile because my first drum, which I still have, was a 1965 Zim Gar snare drum in Blue sparkle.

I don't know when Zimmerman Garfield closed their Brooklyn music shop, but I made an uneducated guess mine were from the early 70s-no real facts to back that up---maybe mine were "vintage" by the time I got them if yours dates from '65. Thanks for the info. dKeep on Pl
