Just got this from EBAY. 15x10. No badge. Came with a drum Leedy drumkey mounted on the side, and I have no reason to believe it is non-original.

I'm thinking of restoring it for concert playing: cleaning up the metal parts, refinishing the shell and hoops, and putting a modern cable snares on with a new strainer.

Do I have a chance of finding a strainer that switches on/off that will fit the existing holes? Two bolts, 2.5 inches apart.

Hi Carl,

Looks very Leedy-esque to me but could have been a couple of different companies. Normally I'm strongly in favor of preservation but drums like this one are a dime a dozen so I don't mind messing with them.

I recently converted a similar Slingerland drum. I took some single post lugs (from amdrumparts.com which they don't seem to offer any longer) which fit into the existing holes, and fitted a Dunnett R-class strainer into one existing hole and another hole which I had to add. (Hard to find a modern throw-off that will fit into two holes that far apart.) Finally, I had some 15" wrap around cable snares made to fit. The result? A delightfully raucous instrument!

Have fun!

I had a 12x18 scotch marching bass drum that looked like that once, it was a leedy. Just judging from the claws and thru-lugs.

A pic of the inside would help. I guess there's no name on the throwoff/strainer or any other hardware, eh ?

Yes, I think you can find a modern strainer to fit that hole spacing. Shop around.....drummaker.com, precisiondrum.com, drumfoundry.com, jamminsam.com, etc.

Here's the restored and updated drum:

I overhauled the drum and made some upgrades for functionality. All the hardware was cleaned, and the shell and hoops were stripped and refinished. The old snare strainer had no throw off, so it was replaced by a modern model. The original wire-wound silk was replaced by a combination of coated and uncoated cable that I made from scratch. The original thick calfskin batter head is in excellent condition.
