What are these?

Indeed Crown was the only other time I have seen that no. of lugs - should have mentioned that - pics of the Blua Pearl wrapped Crowns are on this site somewhere -

I can testify that if you assure that the shells are in round, edges are good, heads are new with proper tuning - they will sound good - even if they are the thicker shells. I have had and seen/heard both ply-up and both the thins and thicks can sound great - all in the true-ness and treatment of these......

So - shipping costs (and a willing seller?)

Does it have a matching snare or is it that Chrome snare - which is what? (pics difficult)

Drum zone - even less valuable than the criticized MIJs - but ya got that Luddy right!

Lastly, from what I have seen - if you want an arguably rare MIJ stencil kit - this Crown is one of them. They are rarely seen (Mickey777 would agree) and I would say the same about the wrap color - Never seen that on an MIJ, nor ANY drum before - perhaps there is a Luddy Standard that color - but....

No. of lugs and color - RARE kit there IMHO. I would spend the $60 in gas and snag them up. What would you be out? like $200 total to have and to hold in your living room! This is where other items in the lot come into play - something to flip to recoop costs? Then there are the possible flip deals in that city.....

Since it is so remarkably RARE - I would take the time do snag these up. MIJs are limited in value, but over time I predict they will only go higher and higher - and this is a very RARE kit IMHO.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hello John,

You are no more confused than I ? lol

I would say they are as good as any of the other mij kits I have collected

in terms of the eight lug toms I think that is great as long as they are complete

In the case of this particular kit with both resonant side eight hole hoops missing

I would be just as happy with six lug toms as finding replacements is a million times easier

Wow Drummerjohn; you really like these! Well, I certainly can't whine about mine, although they were a bit older, three or four ply with rings... They would stay in tune. Heck, I giged 'em while I was in Jr. High and High School. I sold 'em around 1970 or so. I found this badge on eBay - same as was on my kit. I think they changed to something smaller later. These are huge as badges go:

Agreed. Not worth the drive/gas/time/hassle.

Yeah - for some reason this 'badge' (more like an emblem) really appeals to me. I think it, along with all the lugs on their drums (8/10 instead of 6) really decks it out in mucho chromo!

Still wondering what came of this kit - and if the OP got it, or if someone else did - then who that someone is.....and waiting for a good story/ testimony.

I like the wrap, Pearl stencil set in who knows what condition. I like these drum sets, but I'd pass. If the set is free and you don't mind driving then by all means go for it, but I wouldn't advise. I personally wouldn't. If the seller lived nearby I'd maybe consider making an offer of between 50 and 80 bucks, but that would be pushing it.

When I found the kit it was being sold for only $35.00

The seller agreed to arrange shipping and I okayed another 135.00 for shipping

114.00 shipping via U.S.P.S. an extra $20.00 for the seller

and then the $35.00 asking price

total 170.00 my last e-mail recieved was that the seller was working on finding a box

and so on and so forth ..then this thread appeared,......... and after that I heard nothing more

a few days later the Craig's listing for them, had been deleted.

This happens more often than not when the deal is dependant on shipping

but in this case, shipping at least early on was said to be no problem.

Good Luck to who ever ended up with those cool tubs Kenwood

That totally sucks! I have had this happen to me as well - including another forum member being the local one who snagged it up only for me to see it as they share their great score!

The silver lining in my case is that it was another forum member (who I recognized) and I was happy for him and his score. No hard feelings toward him - just toward the circumstances.

I see you recognize the value of these - yeah, totally there, and IMHO totally worth the arranged 170 as they are becoming more rare and soon will be more valuable - especially to the owner after the love poured in.

I hope the new owner finds this thread and shares more details.

A footnote - is that I don't blame the seller for selling locally with no shipping needed. HOWEVER the seller should have honored first come first serve (1st contact). This commitment to you (KWood) should have trumped the local buyer.
