Well Robyn your brother did good~! Nice of him to think of his sister. What a cool find. Looks like it has die cast hoops too. That'll shine like a fine gem with a lil elbow grease.
Congrats!

I have found drums, guitars, amps etc. on the roadside. A few I found ended up a couple thousand miles away w/ Mikey. I found an entire set of white leatherette-covered MIT's in a dumpster. And I raided the dumpster behind the former Thoroughbred Music in Tampa after they cleaned out their drum parts. I have no pride...and I still use the Premier snare stand from the Tampa diving expedition-in 1981...Last weekend was a lone Export 12" tom, complete. Some of the found MIT's end up back on the roadside, where they get repurposed-again.
Can you imagine the drums that get thrown in the dumpster when a bank forecloses on a house that the occupant leaves in a hurry with just the shirts on there back?
Mike brought a piano home a few weeks ago. Our high school was gonna have it crushed, the band teacher got a hold of mike and asked him if he wanted it, there was 4 pianos to be thrown out, so mike picked the best one. He said two were too far gone to save, sad.
Anyway...was also wondering if it takes a special tuning key for the tension rods or can a flat screwdriver be used? Id like to take the heads off so i can give it a good cleaning.
a flat head screwdriver will work
Temporary key would best be a flat piece of steel ( modified nail file or something), Rather than a flared screwdriver which may do some damage by slipping from the slot...
Cheers
John
The ole butter knife thing. I don`t use a screwdriver because of slip. I have the key.
