Amati - Czechoslovakian drums

I noticed that there was a bit of interest for Amati drums somewere around this forum. I had such a kit for my first drums and even though I do not really regret giving them away a few years ago, I thought it might be interesting to post here a photocopy of an old Amati catalog. As far as I know it is hard to find official materials about these drums since they are not being produced anymore, so I hope this helps a little.

wow... cool. Amati drums aren't anything special but this catalogue truly is something you don't see every day.

Where are you from?

I'm from Romania. We used a lot these drums here and you can still find quite a few going around for symbolical prices.

And since I mentioned Romania, there were some local drums named Doina but they are not even as good as Amati are ;)) I think they stopped making them somewhere around the 70's or early 80's, if anyone should be interested in Doina I could try to dig some pics out.

That sounds interesting... If it wouldn't bother you, I'd like to see some...

Here are some pics of my first drum kit ever, an Amati. I think I still have the kick pedal somewhere around here.

Gilnar, you can see a set of Romanian 'Doina' drums in the last pic, the red ones. Like I said, not too interesting :)

Oh, sweet memories..... nearly 20 years ago my very first kit was an Amati wrapped in some blue-metallic material. Bought the drums new in a now long-gone shop in Budapest. They had it on display, no boxes, I had to tear it down myself then jammed the whole thing into a taxi and flew home with my new toys. This kit served me for quite a few years. After a heavy thunderstorm the basement where I kept the kit got literally soaked and the kit was partially underwater. Surprisingly, the beech shells remained in-round, no ply separation whatsoever. The wrap got damaged though so I removed it and painted the whole kit black. I used it for a few more years then sold it to a local collector.

Thanks for this thread, it really did bring back the atmosphere of the olden days! :)

Cheers, Gabor

And check this out. They also made cymbals:

Yes, they did.

I have 20" ride and as a beginner, I appreciate it, but Amati cymbals really aren't anything to get excited about.

Here are some pictures of Amati drums and percussion. I'm not author of any of them...

Some are quite unusual, IMHO.
