Are those "ImperialStars" ever brass? Looks like a good catch - many fans of them on these forums. Originally had Die-cast hoops right?

Holes for the strainer may help you ID its origin (exact model)

In this case this is a 1974 Tama Imperialstar King Beat, but was released soon after Star became Tama, the mechanism still had the Star logo and triple flange hoops, late 1975 they changed the casts and had Tama logo on the mechanism and changed to die cast hoops.

As to COB, I don't know. I never tried a magnet on the shell yet.

Well, I just tried out of curiosity and the magnet did stick to it. COB would be nice, but I know a little about these snares. My friend has an 80's 14x6.5, and I use it when I can on gigs. It's the only snare that has come close to, "That Sound", for me. I have a 70's Accro that didn't have the snare throw or but plate with it, so my plan is to use the ludwig parts on the Accro. Then clean clean clean the Tama and put a nice snare throw and butt plate on it, new heads, and snare wires, and then play the hell out of it.

I've heard that there are COB versions but all the ones I've ever come across - Star or Tama badged - have been steel. Cool snare for not much $$

Looks like the one with dual switch/rods through the center/bottom of it. "Parallel"
