You might want to try hi-bond acrylic double sided tape and some loctite spray adhesive to mount the dura-lar. I really like what you have done and I might try it myself.

Neat! This is 100% a matter of sourcing the right materials. I'm on a super-tight budget with it but wish I could keep testing. Going to use up what I have and wait for the next set of shells...
Issues:
-sparkle not glitter - glitter is flat and will 'lay down' against plastic sheet
-larger type sparkle - fine/extra fine looks like spray paint through the layer of plastic, from head-on POV
-best adhesive for sparkles to plastic sheet...?
-plastic sheet that is more rigid and not as super-shiny as Dura-lar - shiny surface highlights any lumpiness [all my MIJ wraps are lumpy but not so noticeably]
...
I notice that there are various grades of that product,.. Also they have a "mirror" finish in both Silver and Gold.. May be interesting to try also..
Cheers

Wish I could visit the warehouse and pick out just the right product. The sheets I have access to are thin enough that the "dry pattern" of the glue telegraphing through the sheet is an issue. I smeared the glue with fingers for the 12" tom, rolled it on for the floor tom - thinking I should trowel it onto the bass drum shell, or use a trowel to smooth it after application for the smoothest flattest surface.
Either way, you gotta work fast!
Mitch
Finished the floor tom. This wrap looks much better in person than in the pics [again].
Crazy glue worked to fix the minor separation of the plastic sheet from the sparkle layer that was occurring at the seam.
Sure do wish I had another couple of these nice brass Stewart badges...I have stuff to trade....anybody? :)

Looks pretty darn good in the pics. . .James
Thanks James! I fooled with the image to get it closer to the real feel of the deal...
those turned out nice. like the color!

Thanks Mike!
The kick should be Belfountain Gold Mist by day's end...
My dear old Dad told me just today that the crushed glass silver sparkle he contributed to the mix was actually from my grandfather. This pleases me a great deal, to have that bit of [rather comical] family history made a permanent part of this kit which I will never sell. Not only that, the extra fine gold stuff would have been a fail without the larger grit silver.
Cool.
Here's the finished kit. Usual camera fail as to actual appearance...
Here's a link to what seems like the right glitter product for this DIY wrap, I think it's chunks rather than flat pieces -

A slightly thicker, more rigid, less shiny plastic sheeting would help - the Dura-lar telegraphs the dry-pattern of the glue, showing a ripply surface. Some sort of foamy glue, which would not require tensioning the wrap would be better - the wrap could sit on top and the foamy glue could "absorb" any texture...in my dreams anyway.
Visiting a shop where they cut up a lot of copper might yield some copper dust/glitter which could be mixed with silver for a champagne look.
I plan to keep experimenting with this as I acquire bare shells. I'll post results here of course, start a new thread for new combinations of product.
