Antipodes - First, hello down-under! I hope the fires didn't affect you or your loved ones. That said... I don't think it was as much about maintaining fidelity to the line as it was about finding a cool finish for the kit.

Because Hayman was knocking off Camco, I thought ACB would be a good choice because it looks so good on the drums and with the turret lugs and hardware. The color just looks killer on those drums. I've had Jeff finish drums for me, I -know- the very high quality finish work that he's capable of. I have no doubt that after he adds the clear coats to that killer color, it'll pop every bit as good as a metallic finish. It's going to be a killer looking set of drums when Jeff gets through with them.

Thank you gentlemen for your valuable input and ongoing interest in this project. Antipodes is absolutely correct, this reminds me of when I tried to match those Rogers XP8's in a very similar blue finish, it could not be done, by me anyway. The Rogers were a wrap also, beautiful shimmering affect that I just can seem to produce. The Camco pic that John posted is very much the same. So it will be a solid color but with an eye popping clear coat, so John you are correct as well.

Pics of my failed Rogers match, but these were the ones I did the KOA veneer on so it ended up Ok.

Jeff glad to hear the owner picked the ACB. You do first class work and they will look grreat when you finish. I never knew those colors had metallic in them either. Interesting to know. The solid color with clear a mile deep will be sweet!! With all the chatter here about Hayman drums I'm learning quite a bit about them. I had forgot about them for years. Good stuff.

Still liking Turquoise .. but these are going to look GREAT..

Update on the project.

Pic 1, holes plugged and sanded in the bass drum shell

Pic 2, old muffler hole was damaged badly, drum must have been dropped at one time on the muffler knob. So we are filling it in and re-drilling in another location

Pic 3, 12" tom had an incorrect mount installed so good bye holes.

Pic 4, just a picture of the floor tom on its side.

There was about 600 coats of paint inside these drums!

Nice job filling those holes. :cool:

I don't know if you have ever seen this stuff but I used some on my Gretsch bass drum to fill some holes and it seems to be pretty good.

Easy to work with and sandable.

OK, drums are painted gloss white inside and primed and waiting for finish coat on exterior. All the nasty holes are gone, the repairs were successful and these will turn out really nice.
