*sigh*

I got myself a BD and a snare like that from e-bay, for a lot more than 30 bucks - you're lucky. Unfortunately, someone beat me to the tom and floor tom, so now I gotta keep looking... :(

Great drums man, I'm a Sonor fan and I've wanted one of those sets like crazy.

Sure is...

I think on here we are starting to appreciate the aesthetics that go into some drums more now then in the past...

Seems that the ones that cared most about that were the Europeans.....

...Premier/Sonor/Hollywood/Asba and a few more I am sure I am forgetting...or don't even know about...

They had forward thinking designers, where here they seemed much more pedestrian...

Just like the clothes from Italy/France/England....way more progressive designs/better materials then here for the most part....

Can you really get excited about a Slingerland or Ludwig lug? I cant...

Gretsch lugs/hoops seem a little classier, but still not too exciting...or,maybe I am just jaded from seeing them for so many years...?

You're right, it's directly related to the things that are readily available to you: when it's easy to get, you don't appreciate it as much. Ask a European about Ludwigs or Slingies, he'll be dying for a good Radio King or a Jazz Fest. The design of e.g. the lugs may not be as sophisticated as that of a (let's say) Ajax/Premier or early Sonor... but great craftsmanship is what counts the most, is it not?? Plus good American drums are sooooooooo hard to get here (very expensive due to shipping, taxes etc).

So I got a new front head and installed a light in the BD. So far settled for a Coated Ambassador on the 20" BD, but might experiment with some 2 plys. Looking for a deeper tone, any ideas? Also looking for a straight cymbal arm for the BD mount.!!!

My God, what a GREAT job you did on that resto!! My compliments.

I have a 1957 Sonor "Melodie" set to be restored. Mine is a mess, it if comes out 1/2 as good as yours, I will be happy.

Thanks! I just took my time. One drum, week or 2 break, next drum, etc.. Got it all tuned up and sounds really nice! My first Sonor, not used to such a bright drum but really dig it..

Great job on the saving that Sonor Tear Drop! I have a Sonor Tear Drop that is currently my gigging kit with my rock band. They are very versatile drums that take well to different heads. Tuned up high with Ambassadors, they have a [ame="http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gibraltar-Bass-Drum-Mounted-Cymbal-Arm-/161290943520?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item258db07c20"][/ame]Gretsch like sound. Tuned low with Emperor heads and they are simply perfect for classic rock. I have found very few vintage drums that tune up or down as well as the tear drops. The bass drum is killer!

Gilbralter makes a bass drum mount cymbal stand that will work. Of course, it will be more than you paid for the toms and snare! LOL But at $39.99, its not bad. They make it in two different diameters:
