Duck Tape on Cymbals

:confused:Hello all, I just pulled out a 22" ping ride Zildjian that I stupidly put two pieces of duck tape on to control the sound over ten years ago. Now I need to remove them. With a rag and hot water, I soaked the two spots and only the silver surface of the tape came off, and the rest is like concrete. I tried scraping with a piece of wood with no results. I thought I should ask for help before I go any further. Any advise on how to or what to use to get this crap off without ruining the cymbal will be appreciated big time.

If I get this problem fixed, I promise my next posting will be about what can be done to control cymbal sound the right way without being a idiot.

Lacquer thinner or acetone outdoors away from flames -VERY volatile!!! It will dissolve it in no time. Wear the proper rubber gloves and use a piece of terry cloth towel. The molecules of acetone and lacquer thinner are so small, they easily penetrate the pores in the skin and you will get a headache like no other -and maybe worse- if you don't take the proper precautions!

Soak a rag in WD-40 and put it on the residue for a while. Bit safer than other methods. No headaches either.

Goo-Gone works wonders on this stuff too. Got to let it soak a bit, then it will come off. Might need a couple of applications of it to remove it entirely, but a lot safer than acetone or WD-40

The only thing that works with "duck" tape is a little goose grease.

Xylene is a solvent that will remove adhiesive and not harm paint. It is the main ingredient in 3M Adhiesive remover and most tar removers. We use it at the shop to clean duct tape residue off of cars all the time. Acetone and laquer thinner will harm painted finishes. You can get xylene at any good hardware store

One in the same. Duck tape is a name brand for duct tape.
