I'm no expert at all but I would have happily paid $500 for this set! Sonor makes great drums. The hardware appears to be original as well, which is another bonus. They look like the were well cared for.

I have seen lots of Sonor kits with the "studs" you speak of.

Wow did you get deal on a well sought after Mid to late sixties Teardrop kit with matching BD`s in Walnut. It don`t look like Rosewood.

The studs are the mounts for the reinforcing plate inside. It`s kinda shaped like a,...W.... and lets the pole go through two points instead of just the shell. This helps a lot with the shake factor. There should be a date stamp inside.

You easily paid about 1/2 of what the set if worth, if it is in as nice condition as the pic show. What are the sizes? Unusual to find a 12" tom as they usually were 20-13-16 sets. The extra bass drum is a bonus. The hardware looks great as well. Original L arm hard to find.

Snare could be worth all or most of what you paid.

Take head off one of the bass drums to see why there are bolts on either side of the mount - as explained before by oddball.

The snare from the photos is at my rehearsal space. It rocks! I paid separate for it. The kit w/o snare was $500. Awesome to find out that it's 60's. Makes it cooler that way!

I always thought beech wood was crap and would just go for old maple sets. Is 100% beech wood really a sawed after wood? Surprising to me!

They sound great so that's what matters. Just surprised anyone would prefer these beech wood sets over say a Rogers maple set from the same era.

So this "rosewood" finish appears original?! That is great too.

That is probably a 70 kit. They only made the rosewood teardrops for a couple of years. 6 ply beech. I have a 13,16,20 rosewood teardrop kit as well. Love 'em. Very beautiful drums, and sound good too. Hard to beat Sonor quality.
