Nice Project!

There's an old fashioned Music Store in my Hometown that has a Kit like this in (new old) Stock*. It's resting on a High Shelf in that Store probably since the '80s...The Owner doesn't put anything 'on Sale', he just keeps it and waits till someone is willing to pay those (around) 2.000 $.

Best Wishes,

Lars

*PS: I just checked if they even got a Website. They do, even with a Virtual Store Tour (!). I took a Shot:

That's awesome. Thanks Lars. That photo has given me an idea. The original bass drum reso head is on the drum but the previous owner cut a port in the centre and it seems he used a blunt knife and dodgy eyesight to do it. However, the one in the shop you refer to has a much bigger port so that may be what I do with this one.

I'll be spending a lazy Sunday working on the floor tom today and then heading away for a week so I'll post updates when I get back.

OK, here's the finished Floor tom (except the legs which need a polish and rubber feet). Again, the finish came up great as did the interior. The lugs have a little bit more pin-prick pitting than the 13" but not too bad. I only had one useable, but well worn, 16" hoop in my parts pile so I had to salvage the original bottom hoop. I spent a messy half hour with a ball of aluminium foil to remove most of the rust and then a good polish. I cleaned up the original batter head (did the original 13 and 14 too) which despite having a tiny hole still sounds pretty good. There is some superficial splitting in the top ply around the muffler knob but otherwise the drum is undamaged.

Hi Fayray,

Boy does this set bring back memories for me. The were the first kit I bought with my own money when I left school in 1980. I remember looking at them in the Premier catalog and just drooling.

Mine weren't the same colour as yours though, I opted for Black/Silver/Black,

If memory serves me right I'm sure they cam in 4 colours, I remember a little colour swatch sheet Premier issued back then. I had this for years also. Don't even think I've got it now.

Anyway, the reason for my post. Unfortunatly I only have one of those tom parts you're looking for :-

Send me a pm or email me with your address and I'll gladly post it off to you. I know how difficult it is to get the bit your looking for and If I can help it's my pleasure.

I do know the other parts you need, I'll send a few email and ask other british guys I know over her if they have what you're missing, failing that, I'm doing a drum show this year in Birmingham, I'll look there for your missing parts, I'm sure I'll find em' for you. They aren't hard pieces to locate.

I'll see if I can find that flyer premier issued, I don't think I've got it anymore but I'll look for it online as well.

That's really generous of you Dave. I'll send you a message.

The black/silver/black option probably would've been my choice back then. I think the series in these finishes is called signal? What I like most about it is it could just as easily have been an early 70s finish. Not long after this everyone started making power tom sizes.

Well it's almost done. I still have the 14" tom to strip down and clean etc and a couple of parts are on their way so it can be mounted properly (thanks Dave). But this is the configuration I'd use anyway so I thought I'd take some photos.

The only thing that bugs me is the stained inner ply at the bottom of the bass drum due to a large pillow that lived in it for many years. The wood is fine but I can't get the stain out. A new, white BD reso would successfully hide it I guess.

All the batter heads and the BD reso are original. They still do the trick but a new set would be a good idea.

This has been a huge job and I still have the 14" to go and the Trilok hi hat stand and snare stand are REALLY rusty but I might have a go at making them presentable.

Looking good..

If it's a mildew stain, a diluted washing chlorine/bleach mix may be worth a try...

Cheers
