Thanks Vibes. The rust is so severe that I doubt there's enough chrome left for them to look even remotely acceptable. I've found a clean(ish) 16" hoop in my "stuff" pile and another that's at least better than what's on the drum right now. On moderately rusted hoops I find aluminium foil and water or white vinegar works well, too.

The parts that I'm missing are the square eye bolt that goes inside the mount and one on the BD mount is also missing, plus one wing nut.

Example of Rogers,Slingerland,Gretsch,Premier and Ajax sets.
Various '60's and '70's US,English and Japanese snare drums.

Hey thanks all. And yes Blair, I have been bitten.

Even here, you can generally buy an old Premier kit, when available, for the same sort of price as a worn out Pearl Export. The down side is parts are hard to find and after spending hours cleaning etc the drums are still worth very little. I'm thinking that's slowly changing.

Well I've just got into the 16" floor tom. There's a date stamp in this one. 1981. Here are the before shots.

Wow. That head has been on there for over 30 years. When you took it off was there an eerie sound of wind rushing past like in a scene from an Indiana Jones movie?

Your work on this kit is looking spectacular. I always thought Premier made great drums. They, like Slingerland just don't have quite the resale value. That will be one really great looking set when you are done though.
