I am with you ..the finish is super cool looking

It is a shame they are in such poor condition

On top of being just a pair of orphaned siblings

I decided to buy them for three reasons

first being the price, they cost me $35.00

2nd being the cool psychedelic wrap which I had never seen

and lastly because of the pointed lugs

I am not sure how successful I will be at restoring them

given the missing mount tom and not to mention a snare

But Ralf mentioned about making a copy of the wrap for a hoop inlay

I want to look into that for making some possible patches for the floor tom

The seller sent me a series of detailed pics of the damage in a photo bucket type folder and for whatever reason I was not able to save them to my computer, so the few pics I posted here do not fully detail the large hunk of wrap missing from one of the panels on the floor tom

It is that section that short of some donor wrap I will try and fudge with a photo copied and then laminated patch. Thanx man ..Kenwood

Funny how they jumped around with lug and wrap combinations

I have a 16" Stewart BDP Ft with these same pointed lugs

which I had never seen on a Stewart drum before finding this one

My wmp Stewart kit which was hurting in many of the same ways as this kit

they have the regular Slingerland style lugs like your psych kit

I knew this wrap had to be fairly uncommon as like I said

I had never seen it before

I will be sure to update this with any progress I might make on them

I think it may be slow going and no, unfortunately I do not have the rack tom

I have been having trouble enough finding a Stewart or similar rack tom in white marine pearl...so finding one in this Psychedelic Lava Pearl is not very likely ............but the search is on..^5's Kenwood

Ralf's idea is pretty solid. I might suggest that you spend some time and take a quality photo of the wrap. You only need an image that is the size of the distance between two claw hooks. When you print the media it will be a repeating pattern, however, all of the "lines" between the repeats can be hidden under the claws. This makes the photo process much simpler. Whoever creates the graphic file can rotate each iteration of the image 180 degrees so that there would be no repeating patterns. Should work like a champ.

I finally hooked up with Alex this afternoon

He sold me these two Star drum shells for which, this thread was started

he even lugged them down from Boston for me

As he just happened to have a good friend in Providence

I spent the better part of last evening

giving them some much needed attention

I did sort of a superficial cleaning

But mostly focused on just getting them back together

I had to scrounge up some hoops, claws, rods, clamp on spurs, and heads for the bass drum

I did have one original hoop with no inlay, but I set it aside, in favor of the two matching orange sparkle hoops for now.

The floor tom took two fresh heads, resonant side hoop,tension rods,and all three legs

Just as a temporary measure, a few strips of clear packing tape was used

to rejoin a severe split in the wrap material, running the full height of the drum...OUCH!!

The old external muffler on the bass drum is doing what it does while hiding a small defect in the coating, on an otherwise pristine Ambassador

finally for lack of anything better, a 13" orange sparkle Decca tom

stands in for now.

I have a matching orange sparkle Decca snare drum too

but it has not been cleaned or assembled yet.

This might be a good candidate for one of those ROCKENWRAP drum wraps that will print anything you want to make a cover for a 12 or 13?

Those drums are looking good, the top tom will turn up just a matter of where /when. If i see anything here in the UK ill let you know. I did see a hoshino floor tom similar finish but not like yours.

Certainly you can print anything on a substrate and turn that into a wrap. If you are trying to do a repair on that wrap you will never get it to match up but you could treat it as an additional panel like you would have on any drum 18" or over.

A print like this will not have the depth that most traditional drum wraps would have but you could certainly do some cool and extremely unique designs. My thought for this was simply that a print would be a perfectly good alternative for a hoop strip.
