Vintage Repair?

I hear what you're saying. :)

The 12" that is in my pics I already cut down one time.

I cut it about a 1/4" back from the bearing edge.

I did that with a dremel tool.

Then I feathered it up with a file.

I'm not really afraid to do it myself if I just knew how far to trim it back.

5/8 to 3/4 of an inch seems like an awful lot.

I was hoping someone would say " you should trim the wrap down x amount and it will be just fine". LoLoLoLo

Okay guys,

I came really close to screwing this tom up good.

I had marked the wrap with a measurement from my Remo head.

Then I ordered some Aquarian American Vintage heads.

I'm so glad I didn't start cutting on this thing before the heads got here.

That would have been a big mistake.

When I got the heads out of the box I tried to put them on and it was real close but no cigar.

So I decided to just trim the overlap and see what I could get.

So I started cutting on my mark that I had made with the Remo head.

Well, the Aquarian heads I got aren't as deep as the Remo heads are.

So now I have this little gap on the bottom side.

There is no wood showing, just the edge of the wrap where I cut it and feathered it down a bit.

I'm going to find me an orange sharpie or something and touch that edge up. :p

Luckily I only did one side before I realized what I was doing.

On the top side I marked it using the Aquarian head and it is a lot closer to the head.

I also have this little score mark around the drum just below each hoop.

It's barely noticeable when just looking at the drum.

You can see it in the close up shots.

Over all it turned out pretty good for my first wrap job I think.

These are the things you learn right? ;)

All I have left to do is the finish cleaning the parts for the bass drum and install them and I have to glue the inlay on the hoops.

I hope to get all that done this weekend. D' Drummer

It's fine. Nobody will notice & you'll be the only one that knows. Drums look great!

Okay,

I have been switching back an forth between restoring a bicycle and these drums.

I polished all the bass drum hardware and got it back on.

I got the inlay on the hoops glued and clamped.

All I need now are the heads for the bass and this thing is ready to rock. The Band

That kit is looking SPECTACULAR! I was going to rewrap my 50's RB kit in Tangerine and went with Burgundy sparkle. What I originally wanted was what you have on yours. They look awesome, mac. Classic RB finish.

Too many great drums to list here!

As you should be!!! Man these really look sweet! Excellent wrap choice. Coming to the final stage before you play them for the first time is most exciting!! Makes everything worth while the first time you hear them sing~! ;)
