1963 Bollero Drums

Drummerjohn333-these were the original wooden gold/orange hoops that came with this set and i was only 14-15yrs. old,so i didn`t know anything about switching wood for metal hoops then-this was the mid 60`s and i didn`t know anything about reconfiguration of hoops at that point in time. These were the real deal with this set in 1965 so guess that leaves a question in time period here? But what you see is what i had so wish i could answer more of this mystery.Thanks...

From Wayne Brown

... I checked out your Star web-site( fantastic!) and didn`t see my badge on there. It`s like the second badge(black oval) but with Bollero on it with the (o) matching up with the grommet hole.Interesting about the wrap color, as the ice-blue is in between the two colors you`d mentioned and the orange sparkle hoop inlays are certainly different.I was born in 1950 and in the pic i sent you i`d say i`m barely 15 if even that old.Hope this vague info will be be of any help to you and if i can get two more pics to load i`ll send them to you as you can see the badges much better. Many thanks again Ralf...Wayne

Thanks, Wayne, for the compliments. Would be great to see a pic of your Bollero badge - especially as it can be - confirmed - dated back to 1964/65!

Yeah, great pic Wayne - thanks for posting. Wild about the gold/orange inlay hoops - Thanks for clarifying Drummerjohn333. Do you recall if it was 20", or 22" bass drum? I don't see a floor tom...? Almost seems like some kind of mongrel kit - no offense, I'm diggin' it. Great color. Noticing the bass drum cymbal mount - seems like older style, (not same as floor tom leg mounts) from what I can make out. Always fascinated by the history of these old drums.

DaddyNowhere-the bass was a 22" and this kit was bought new as a three pc.(no floor tom). However i added another upper tom and floor tom in the next year.I`ll post a pic of that soon.I too love the history of these wonderful old instruments...

Hi again,

Now I'm quite sure that this is not a Star drumset. The Bollero badge has a different shape and the tom holder on the bass drum: also different from Star's style.

Nevertheless love to see the 60's vibe coming out of your pics, Wayne!
