Lovin' the pics Wayne. The pennants on the wall are great. Be cool to have a photo section on the forum for, 'first kits'. or 'first bands'.

Yeah, some of these old MIJ kits can be a real mystery - I love it. Some you can ID at a glance, but then something like yours comes along... Probably lucky for Ralf, that this isn't Star - sure his task is hard enough without such anomalies. Bass drum Ts appear to be Star, but I have a Crown kit with similarly shaped Ts that I have yet to positively ID, though I'm edging towards Pearl. I know the Stewart badge was used by Star, Pearl, and Hoshino, and it looks like Bollero is another, multiple manufacturer brand. Don't make things easy.

I know there were many kits sold as three piece back in the day, but it seems to me, that these were usually, the smaller, 20" kick, and 12" tom, and more commonly, the 'Club Date', single row lug style, (from my observations at any rate). Pondering whether this was a result of having a special order filled, leaving your kit short a floor tom, and swapped out hoops, though this seems unlikely. Don't mind my babbling - determined to earn my upcoming 'Guru' status. Lots of fun here on VDF.

Noticed, too, that lugs and T's (= T-rods) look similar (equal?) to Star's. But the tom holder on the bass drum is a definite 'NO' to Star.

We had this discussion about Star vs. Pearl here some time ago. Conclusion: some hardware parts may look almost identical between both companies, but its' deviations are coming out, when you look into the exact details.

Would like to add that the mentioned name Stewart also was made both by Star and Pearl - but the badges (... and hardware details) look different and that's it.

Thanks Ralf and DaddyNowhere for not giving up on this little mystery.I`ve got a pretty good idea now and i`m leaning towards Pearl as the maker of this set.Now if i could just figure out what they called this wrap color?I`ve heard so many different ideas, but no one seems to know for certain.Guess i`ll just call it 'light blue marine pearl' for now. Can`t seem to find it in any of the catalouges, etc.but did see one close on the Kellyj post last night as Ralf you`d mentioned there was that same discussion.

Great idea DaddyNowhere about having a photo section on the forum for members to post their first kits and bands.Maybe we should start a thread in that regard and see where it goes, but would it be in Vintage drums or non USA drums,ha-would be interesting.

Thanks guys,

wayne
