Pearl Fiberglass

From fishwaltz

Here's the kit, all cleaned up. It includes a Pearl knockoff (Excell?) snare for the kid getting the kit. I goofed off with the kit for a moment or two... wow. Those things sing LOUD! Standard sizes: 22, 12, 13, 16.Yup, gonna have to get me one of those.

Nice restore. Where in CA. did you find those and if you don't mind asking what you paid? Mine are the same tom sizes, but the bass is a 24 inch, I prefer a 4 piece kit. I'd like a five, but I'm more of a 2 floor tom guy than 2 rack tom. Lastly, YES!! They do sing very nicely! Tons of resonance!!

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Thanks Bill. I can see what you meant about the rack tom hardware. Anyone gigging these extensively may indeed want to change it out. The kid getting the kit is ten years old (still kicking myself - can't you hear me wince and whine?) and just learning to play. I doubt the drums would be getting moved much, if at all.

After all is said and done, I'm going to tell the father (a friend of mine) that we can change that out if it's needed at a later date.

I'm in Clovis, just east (and attached) to Fresno. Found them here, in the area. I paid $150.00 for the shells. They were missing one tom mount (found one on eBay: $20.00) and the original fold down spurs were toast. I had some new-ish generic fold down spurs that nearly fit the original holes... wobbling two holes out slightly fixed that. Then a bit of elbow grease, Windex, Goo Gone, and replacing two bass drum lugs that were iffy... new-ish heads (uncoated pin stripes on the toms, Used but good PS3 on the bass, with a new, cheap reso on the bass, since that's what I had. The reso heads that came with the kit are nearly new, so I left 'em.

A huge thanks to Bill for drilling recommendations for fiberglass.

I'm looking for the same wrap in a 22, 13, 16 (with or without the 12).

Great looking set. Brought me some smiles. I have been playing a 1972 Pearl Artist F1-S WMP since I got it in 1975. I gigged it for nearly 30 years in a Beatles/oldies cover band. Jupiter snare COB always has THE sound, and the fiberglass toms have awesome projection which always helped in those venues where it was too small to mike. As a gigging drummer I was glad not having to worry about weather/storage like I might fret with wood shells.Perfectly tuned, these babies can sing with the best of them!In storage now, but will share pics when I can dig some up.Long live fiberglass!Excited

Yes! Please dig those out and shoot some pictures!! I'd love to see 'em.

Well again, I can't say enough about those Pearl FG shells! I can't figure out why they seem to be such a secret!

Fish, as you know I'm always on the lookout, so I'll especially keep my eyes open for some more of these for you! BTW -- that "load" you picked up for me last summer and had Dana ship? They're all gone but a 16x16 and an 8x12...

wow, those are both really classy looking kits. I love that colour.

Yeah, the color grows on you! Originally I thought it was a tad bright, but...

Oh yeah, here's the 'u' we don't use in color... just in case you wanted it! flower

Ha! I usually spell it on here without the 'U' so as not to cause confusion but I forgot this time.

I reckon if you tell your friend that you'd like first right of refusal on the kit should he ever want to sell it you might get it back in a year or two. As you'd know, most 10 year olds start out as enthusiastic learner drummers but the dust settles (on the kit) and they've moved on to something else.

Thanks Bill, yes please do! I appreciate it. Well, you are the go to guy for these IMHO. I've shown a number of folks your thread about the re-wraps, and they've all been very impressed.

Thanks again!

My friend is picking the kit up late this afternoon. When I called him to tell him the kit was ready on Saturday, that was about the third thing out of my mouth... 'if you ever want to get rid of these...'

The 'u' in color may be good everywhere except here (don't remember how Canadians spell it). The big one is 'tire' with a 'y'. Don't-cha just love Engrish! Yes, the 'r' is on purpose. Cooked Egg
