Restoring my 1966 Luddy Marching snare Pics

Loading...

I started restoring my old Luddy marching snare last night. I thought it was a pre serial # Badge, because it had been painted over so thick I couldn't see a serial number. As it turned out, I removed the badge and dropped it in a lil paint stripper. I thought I would let it set for 30-60 minutes. I looked at it after about 5 minutes and the paint just slid right off of the badge. I rinsed it in the sink and It looks fabulous! I am trying to decide what color to wrap it in. Im looking for a wrap that could have been original in 1966 or very close.

Does anyone know anything about sparkling red pearl. That was available in 1966. Is it just a red sparkle? The inside of the drum had a haze of green paint in it too. According to what I have read on here I think it should be white. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]I pity the foo Mister T who gone and went spraying that drum !

Just use 180 grade sandpaper to take off the green on the interior and get you back down to white.

Yes..."sparkling red pearl" basically refers to either a sparkle or a glitter. It's funny how nomenclature changes....nobody called sparkles 'sparkle' back then.

I learned a new word today. I had to look it up.

"nomenclature" A system of names for identifying elements, ions, and compounds.

Since I have started restoring drum I find myself out of my vernacular, but im learning fast! thanks jaye

Yes the nomenclature of drum history makes me feel in my vernacular!

I quit playin' 30 yrs ago and start again and its all come back around. I wish I had them slingerland's my step-monster sold in her garage sale for $50 decades ago. Drum terms may change, but the old vintage terms are alive and well! hehehehehe It's a blast too!

I played hookey today and workrd on my marchin' snare untill i got it all sanded and had to reglue the inside seam. So i got out my fancy new clamps and cut off a lil piece of wood and pried the ply up and squirted elmers in there and clamped it back down. Well, there I was, "WAITING" again lol.

I cleared all the extra cymbals and staands outta mylivin room and rearranged the garage a little and yada yada yada,
