I recieved my red sparkle wrap from precision drum co. and I love it! I havent ever wraped a drum with the glue on solid method, I have done a few using the hybond tape memthod. I didnt get the step by step instructions with my wrap. I own a auto trim shop for 33 yrs and we use about 20 gallons of dap weldwood contact adheisive a month. We spray it on with a binks spray gun with a 2 gallon pot. I am very familier with how the glue works and have recovered countless things in my life.

My experience has led me to believe that It never hurts to seek advice from an expert before attempting to do something I have never done.

Do you think the Dap will work ok? Is it ok to spray the glue on? Where the wrap overlaps, do I need to do anything to the wrap, like sand it or something to get the glue to stick to the slick surfaces?

You have skills! The wrap isn't any different from other things you have done. I would put tape on the wrap where you don't want to get any glue, I wouldn't want to use any solvents to remove it off the wrap.

I taped up all the holes inside the drum. The wrap has a clear plastic film on it. I am going to use the non flamable glue precision recomends and brush it on. After I wrap it I wma going to spray paint the inside of the shell white. before I remove the clear film. I tried to access the refinishing link on the forum and it didnt work,.

Xylene will remove adhesive and not harm paint or plastic. We use it constantly at the shop. It can be bought as Xylene or 3M adhesive remover has it in it and most tar removers have xylene. Acetone, and laquer thinner, however, will discolor and melt plastic and remove paint. Acetone is a good adhesive promoter as long as you dont get it on the finish. When we paint plastic car interior parts, we clean it real good with soap and water and then right before we paint it we wipe it with laquer thinner, The laquer thinner actually melts the plastic slightly and the paint will adhere like a MF! lol

I decided to go ahead and glue the wrap on my marching snare today. I have both surfaces painted with the adheseve and letting them dry a bit. I am use to using the extremely flamable and stinky contact adheseve, and spraying it on. This stuff doesnt seem to be near as powerful as the stuff we use at my shop. I will post results and pics soon,

^$@#^&)_)(&%!!!!!!!!!!! I brushed the nonflamable dap onto both surfaces and let them dry a biit and the stupid thing wouldn't stick, so i brushed on another coat and let it dry, Still wouldn't stick! I put on another coat and the dang thing still wouldn't stick. I have been using contact adhesive every day for the past 30 yrs or so. I know how the stuff works. I have been around it so much I can barely smell it anymore. When I bought the wrap from precision, he told me he didnt recommend the flammable glue. He siad it might discolor the wrap. Hmmmmmm. We use it to put vinyl tops on cars and glue vinyl to anything. Soooooo, anyway, I dicided to do the hybond tape method, but use my flamable glue instead of the tape, since I dont have any tape on hand at the moment. I figured i would have to clean the glue off of the ends of the wrap, so my real adhesive would stick. I cleaned off a spot with mineral spirits and found that I could literraly peel the glue off of the wrap and the shell. Well here I am 2 1/2 hours later and have accomplished zilch!

Hey Poppy,

The 3M glue from precision works pretty darn well. If i might suggest something though, remove the old paint, I use Jasco Premium, and then fill and sand a little. Then paint one coat of adhesive and let it dry, then paint another on the drum and one on the wrap and let them dry...then marry 'em up.

Cya,

Mike

PS: I use a paint removing sponge to remove the Jasco and old paint.

Sorry about your glue and wrap trouble. How's it going now??

Going back a little to the pedal part of your thread.

It's a cool pedal! I picked up the same Sonor pedal about three weeks ago from a drum buddy. He didn't want to sell it because it was so "Jetsons". Looks like a pedal Rosie the robot would have played.

He said before selling that he couldn't stop looking at it. Bye the way, that's the matching hi-hat you see there~Walking
