Going Broke on Drum Heads

Loading...

Wow, surprised nobody has mentioned Jammin Sams yet. He offers a VERY GOOD deal on heads - very simple basic, quite similar to clear ambassadors, but I also think he offers coated now? I know they work very well as resos but not sure how well they work as batters. I have a set of them for a restore project that I have not gotten to yet. I will post when I get around to it and try them out.

Definitely worth looking into.

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I spend a good deal of time trolling 3bay for deals on heads.I have no problem putting used reso heads on bass drums, and will buy heads, especially common sizes when I find them cheap. I'm also not above making a black dot into a clear Ambassador-like my Tama logo 24" BD heads for $30 for 2 with free shipping. They WERE black dots...

Also, if you find heads (or any other equipment) cheaper at another place, MF and GC will usually beat the price by 10% of the difference.

I used to think MF was the cheepest, one day I decided to go to my "mom and pop" shop and guess what,, same price. So thats where I go from now on. Internet is handy but c'mon guys lets help out ole mom and pop once in a while, they need to eat too! Plus, its nice to see products in person and talk to a real human.

Thank you!

Musicians Friend,, I am a preferred customer and I also use their discount coupons, no one has beat their prices for me so far.+ as already mentioned they will price match.

VTM2000 and I live in a drumming/music desert.

Our Mom and Pops stores, (total of two...one Mom and one Pop, no relation) can't touch the online prices available from any of the big guys.

I hit the discount coupons and specials and load up.....with free shipping it works out good.

Cascio music has some good prices too. Cupon codes, and

Free shipping sometimes. I wonder if those coated heads at Jammin SAMs are good?

I think its hard to beat the retailers listed in this thread. I have bought from all of them with coupons. deals, etc. I have switched Remo and Evans based on pricing. If you are always going to put new heads on the drums you will be nearing the point of low quality heads ruining your hard restoration work.

Heads are the best way to make MIJ drums sound better. I would opt for lightly used heads vs. new if forced under $100 for a set of 14, 12, 14 or16 FT, plus BD.

I use Remo Ambassadors on my MIJs with Attack Reso.s and they work great. Its the Kick that will kick you and where you get a lot from the head. The under $20 models are a compromise (major, IMHO) on the sound.

That all said, Attack Pre-Packs can fix you up for about $80-$85. Order enough to get free ship.
