Jeff, AWESOME job!!! I can't wait to put it together! I guess I just "outed" myself. :p

For all who may be interested, I'll be posting pictures of the whole process - and thanking all involved (including CTProPercussion for letting my "borrow" his idea, and of course Jeff for an awesome job on the finish, and Glenn (FFR428) for reminding me that Jeff is a master with a spray gun when I was going to "try my hand" at it with a spray can Toilet).

From bmw2002

Hope you didn't smoke all those cigars.

The completion of this project signifies the end of my cigar smoking days. Fortunately, I had help from some friends in collecting that many cigar bands. I had to buy 3 cigars for their bands in order to complete the project. So, as soon as those - and a few more that were given to me last week by a friend - are gone, I'm done. I probably could have bought a nice vintage kit if I had saved the money I spent on cigars over the last 7 years. More importantly, cancer is too rampant in my family for me to continue. I want to be around to enjoy many more Father's Days with my little girl.

With that, I'll say Happy late Father's Day to all of you! I hope it was a great day for all of you!

Jeff: Incredible results. I'm assuming that there was a lot of sanding between coats. Final polishing required on the last coat, or does it just come out that smooth?

Lynn: I think I remember you mentioning to Matt of CT Pro Percussion that you were going to try replicating his cigar band set. If only you could get your set together with his... what a great picture!

Wow...too cool...very nice job ....

Maybe next time..do it with all wine labels...

A label from a bottle of 1978 Chateau Lafite Rothschild ($1,200!), Chateau Margaux etc would be a nice touch......

You could have lots of fun (hiccup!) collecting them....

Just save the drinking until you are done working on the drum.....

I can't wait to put it together and share the pics with you. Thanks again for doing it right...I certainly couldn't have come close to making it look that good.

I PMed Matt and asked if he would mind if I borrowed his idea and he was kind enough to give me some very good advice on what he did when he built his kit. I don't recall if I mentioned wanting to do this in any posts or not, but I certainly may have.

It would be real neat to have a picture of my snare with Matt's kit. I'm only doing one drum - I don't know how Matt had the time, patience or enough back pain medicine to do a whole kit. Hurting

Yes, some pretty agressive sanding. I actually used a sanding block to "plane" the finish to a flat surface. I wanted it to look like the bands were behind glass.

Last coat is sprayed, no buffing.

Thank you!
