What kit is this and should I buy it?

To clarify my response, the Beverly kit is a full on professional kit and the Pearl kit is a beginner MIJ kit. I would certainly get the Beverly kit, but as mentioned, for that money, I would consider both kits. You can always flip one (most likely the Pearl kit).

Ditto! With a little elbow grease you could get both kits, flip one, and have the other for free. I'm no MIJ expert, I had no clue that Beverly was a 'B' range pro kit. Unless it has some problems, that's the keeper. But, that Pearl is an opportunity knocking.

I own the same type of Beverley kit, with the same mounts, etc. It's a really great kit! Check my videos on youtube, included on my Beverley playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkE0VrJJiMdNFOTSohZ6zvSqnGwPkJpzH

Highly underrated gear. Just today i took a lug apart and saw that Bev lugs don't have springs (unlike Hayman, for example). Solid lugs, lovely chrome. Great birch shells (sometimes African mahogany... Not luan).

Go bev! Join the club! Skip the Pearl.

I agree..

Just having that Pearl kit in my house would make me feel queasy..

.I hate their logo...just about anything to do with them!

Maybe it's from seeing so many COOL vintage kits with those horrible huge pipes from Pearl 80's tom mounts blasted into a innocent kit.....DOH:mad:

No wait....maybe it was those FUGLY 80's lugs?electricit

Anyway....

The Lokfast mount used on the Beverly kit shown did not come out on the Prems till 1973....so am thinking same time for the Bevs.......would make sense....

playing devil's advocate here but having just converted a 70s Rogers kit from the dreaded Pearl tom mount back to the original swivo mounts I can see why working drummers did it. Some of those old drums weren't so innocent:) I have never been a 2 up player but for the life of me I can't see how anybody could play that set up with the swivo mount. The Pearl mount is ugly, for sure, but it works. Also most of the original swivo collets have split at the ends and don't hold well which really gave the owner no option but to opt for the Pearl. Apparently this is from being over-tightened but what rock drummer wouldn't tighten everything up well.

However, that said, if the price is the same (and I saw this Bev kit being advertised at 600 euros) then that's the one i'd go for. But I do rate the Pearl kit as a cheap vintage kit too. But of all my kits (MIJ/USA/Brit) my 72 Prems are the best sounding.

Hi all,

Today I became the proud owner of a lovely Beverley kit! Clapping Happy2. She's in great shape, one small bubble in the wrap (on the side of the bass), but everthing else is in excellent condition.

When I drove home I had to smile when I looked in the back of my car. I think that says it all :)

Thank you guys for changing my mind. I think the Beverley is a nicer looking and better quality drum than the Pearl. And I also think it's a better investment.

My next search is for a Beverley snare, probably the 21. They're hard to get in the Netherlands but the seller recommended eBay Germany and England.

I will put up some pics soon!

Regards,

Dennis.

Very happy for you! I wrote some detailed info about my Beverley in my blog (maybe you found it already). My main issue was with the hoops, which felt a bit flimsy to me. I swapped mine for Gibraltar hoops.

Hopefully you'll agree that Beverley is one of the best kept secrets in vintage drums! Good luck finding a nice 21!
