What kit is this and should I buy it?

Loading...

We have rehearsals tonight, so i will put up some pics tomorrow.

I've been trying to get more info on the kit on the Internet, but it's difficult. I was told the color is 'White Marine Pearl'. Is this correct? Also, what are the exact sizes? I only know it's a 22, 12, 13, 16 config, but what's the depth of the shells? And what year is it from? The oval tomholder indicates early '70s??

Hi guys,

Here are some pictures. I played it last Wednesday at the rehearsals and I totally love it! I also got lots of compliments on the looks and the sound of the kit.

Here's also a YouTube link of a song we recorded.

Real glad you grabbed these...Cool1

Wish I had them......

Why only using 1 Tom though? you are missing out on 25% of "That Great Beverly Sound "

Did your band have too many Red Bulls or Herbage or both .... before you played?:D

Are all the drums birch inside? I can see the BD is....

Prem liked to mix and match birch/mahogany around this point......using up the mahog they were using from 1970-75......

So many questions...

I also have the 13", but didn't have a bag or case to bring it to the rehearsals so i left it at home ;)

All of the shells are 3 layer (birch, mahogany, birch). In the middle is the darker mahogany. The seller told me that the reinforcing rings are made of beech? Can that be correct?

I'm used of playing maple shells but these drums are more focused / defined. Love it.

Really classy kit and nice choice. Typically the re-rings were beech as I recall. As to the color, that would generally be referred to as white marine pearl, however, various manufacturers had their own unique names for finishes and sometimes they even changed the names from year to year. There are even different shades of that color with some using the term "marine" signifying a brighter blue tint and others not including it. Whenever you see WMP that is the generic term for colors such as yours and it is a beauty.

Dennis, the rings are surely beech, yes. Regarding the "focused" sound, it is perhaps due to the more rounded bearing edge on the Bev compared to sharper edges on your modern kits. I did a direct comparison with my Natal maple kit and my Bev, and the Natal resonates for weeks compared to the Beverley with the same heads and tuning. It's all about the edges, I believe, and less about the wood. I played for about 25 years before I cared enough about the geeky side of gear to learn the importance of bearing edge cut. :)
