Hey Stef, not an expert or even close, but I do recognize the kit and I am really surprised Dan sold them. He must have decided to keep just his L.A. era set? Same finish and sizes 22,12,13,16. Anyway, Congratulations on a fantastic set of drums. You know the whole set should sound like the bass drum or just as good once you get them dialed in. A lot of us might have heard them already without knowing it since they were his primary recording kit and he used them for TV and advertising/commercials down in So-Cal. He also gigged them live for years from what I understand before he had them refinished. The setup he used for live shows was the 22,12,16 and a dw snare drum. I do have some old pictures of them before and after resto shots if you would like them? The oddities of the bass drum are beyond me. B-stock or quality issues and Oaklawn era drums are like oil and water...Mistakes were more than likely destroyed. Camco Oaklawn and L.A. era's had strict quality control policies in place, but like Steve /Dolfan has said in the past, the Chanute era didn't...Everything seems to be mounted backwards including the badge, which should be facing the front or audience. But that part could just be that when Steve restored them, he re-mounted the badge backwards like a Ludwig badge, facing the drummer... Also these are the drums that were in the fire that came out pretty much undamaged except for the paint on the badges and some of the finish on a few of the drums. One thing is for certain you got one heck of a Great set of drums! Right on Stef!

Waaaw Sling, I was not aware of the history behind this set.

I'd love to get some pictures, info, recording, whatever you might have.

Please send me a PM.

I bought the set from Dan about a month ago but it took weeks to get them because of Paypal/visa issues and delay through customs.

I must say that it was an immense pleasure to have dealt with Dan.

Without a doubt the most positive Ebay experience since I became member in 2002 not to mention Dan's meticulous packaging.

The set arrived with all brand new heads so for sure they need to dial in.

Now that I started paying attention to it and searched for all the Camco pictures I could find on the web, there doesn't seem to be much of a standard position for the tom mount.

Most triangle mounting plates are pointing forward but some of them are also pointing backward.

Also the distance from badge to mount to the edges seem to vary a lot.

Anyway, I'm absolutely thrilled to owe this set and what a great pleasure to find out the set's history,... Thanks Sling

The slight variances of (some of the hardware) the tom mounts/rail mounts, badge locations on the BDs, and BD spurs are another one of the great things about Camco's. They were each hand made and not all cookie cutter mirror images of each other. The variances are usually slight but evident that the locations were standard, but yet not exactly measured to the millimeter making each drum and each kit as unique and individual as it's owner...Like a hand made Italian sports car, to me, they represent the pinnacle in American drums.
