The kit wasn't really as bad as it sounds. Overall the drums and wrap and chrome itself are in great condition. I was able to just use fine steel wool and buff off all of the overs pray on the lugs. I wanted a kit that had all original parts with no extra holes or any weird mods. Another guy locally also has a SBP kit he is selling. I went to see it before grabbing the kit I now own. Overall it was visually more appealing except for one huge issue that kept me from pulling the trigger..a center mount was drilled into the bass drum. So the console's holes were plugged with screws and there was also an extra hole near the cymbal mount. He wanted $1000 for them. I would have only offered $800 so not sure if he would have accepted that or not. No way was I paying more when the bass drum was butchered that badly. The kit I ended up with cost me $800 but it was all original. Now that I have the interiors back to original they look even better. Well worth the $$ for their overall condition. The shells are solid and the edges clean on all drums. No cracks or bumpy edges or any damage that I can tell. So the biggest drawback left are the mufflers. Not too concerned since I'm keeping these for myself. Maybe sometime down the road I'll pick up a couple of baseball bat mufflers in good condition and swap these out but for now I am really pleased with my purchase.Update to my inlay issue...I used a gel paint stripper i had in the garage and tried it on a small part of the inlay. Brushed it on and within 5 minutes the paint was bubbling up and it peeled right off leaving my SBP inlay fully intact. Man was I a happy camper. I proceeded to removed all of the paint from both hoops so now I have two good hoops with the original inlay that matches the rest of the kit. Now I just need to repaint the hoops and my kits overhaul will be complete. Good luck with the rest of your rehab. They are looking good and you'll feel real good about them when you are finished with everything.
cool man! its crazy how cheap drum sets are... seems like they are way cheaper than a vintage les paul guitar.
Today I removed all the masking tape and im doing another buff with the plastX and an auto buffer.. soaked and scrubbed my hardware with a toothbrush and soap and then buffed them with some gel gloss chrome polish..
My floor tom is missing the muffler.. i have a show coming up in March so i need to get all this done for the gig!!!
