ive got a bunch of sky blue pearl stuff. most all of mine has faded to that shade. i like it that way the best i think. most of mine are almost a light shade of green. i think it looks cool.

ive seen some sbp that was "restored" back to the original blue. my guess is that the clear coat itself darkens on these. i think the ones that have been taken back to the light blue might have had the clear taken down. i wouldnt want that done to my drums, even if they were re'cleared.

Hey. Thanx for replying, I think it's not as obnoxious of a wrap when it's faded but at the same time it would b cool to see it all original looking. I guess that'd require sanding down the clear coat, that seems scary to me...

With the hardware removed I may paint the interior white, right now they are black interiors.

Any tips on making the wrap the best it could be?? Also how should I clean the hardware

as long as you have the wrap cleaned and polished, you should. novus products work nice but so does the wax that you mentioned.

if your hardware has corrosion, soak them in dawn dishwashing detergent and water overnight. then just polish with whatever you prefer. works like a charm.

i just built this 64 sky blue pearl clubdate bass this past week from a bare shell with a badge. its got the fade much like yours...

That kick looks so nice! It was a bare shell? So you actually wrapped it in a vintage SBP wrap you had? I need one of those hoops with the the inlays, i have an appropriate one and a silver sparkle one..

nah, i used the wrong wording there! bought the sbp shell with badge and spurs and gathered up all of the other parts,relacquered the hoops. seems like all sbp kits are missing inlays for some reason. i have another guy looking for some as well. i had two extra inlays but gifted them to forum brothers already..

if you have a harley dealer nearby, they usually stock novus kits.

You can use retro brite, which is basically peroxide and oxyclean, I did it on some really badly yellowed WMP shells I have, but the gloss is now completely gone. I have a '67 super classic in sbp and I love the faded wrap as well.

Sky blue pearl is still available from ludwig and everyone else if you want a new looking kit buy a new ludwig legacy.

Steve maxwell even has them with gullwing spurs, consolette tom mounts and no gaskets! full on 60's style!

My vote is to NOT try and get the original color back. The SBP is still beautiful even with its greyish color. Clubdate mentioned retrobrite, it will remove yellowing on WMP but as he said also removes the shine.
