A WFL Project Begins.

Loading...

Well, with about thirteen or fourteen customer drums waiting, I have been a little slow going on this project. Hopefully this little snipit will keep you guys interested until I can get back to it.

Here is the 12. It has undergone the most drastic repairs and modifications of all of the drums. It started as a double lugged white interior ludwig, and is now a faux WFL single lug with a Mahogany interior. I was able to fill all of the holes that I didn't want. and completely cover them with the wrap and veneer. I know what the drum is, and you all do too. I'm not trying to hide that. I bought a COPY WFL badge, to hopfully keep that evident to anyone who ever owns this drum. I might even label the inside to make sure it doesn't end up being sold as what it's not someday. None the less. what it is is a great clean little tom that I saved from the dead, and made work for this kit. The only evidence of the repairs is the little patch on the reso side bearing edge. Otherwise it is one clean little tom. Almost like new, and that's how I like them...

First pic is of the repro badge. It's just different enough that you should easily be able to tell. the second pic is of the repair spot on the reso edge. It is small, and shouldn't ever be an issue. That picture also shows how I like to finish my covering edges. Contoured to the drums outer edge. The third pic shows the inside of the badge grommet, installed with factory like results.

Ryan - Ingenious solution! Did the new mounting plate alter the sound or resonance of the drum at all?

Great thread to follow...

I think the drum sounds great!. As I made so many modifications to this drum I don't have a great comparison, My real test will be the 15. I did play that one a bit before the rebuild, and I did less mods. I hope I can let you know real soon.
