Ya, this is a great thread. You have done some outstanding work to these old shells. How hard was it to veneer the inside of the 12? Dose the contact cement that you use adhere immediately on contact or do you get a second chance to straighten it out? Nice work!

And to answer a your questions: (teverson-sr -why not mount the BD spurs in the same way as the tom mount?)- I would, but as the drum is a center lug, the bass drum spurs would end up centered in the drum. I thought about it, but I think those 4 holes will be the only ones, I promise.---- (jccabinets- How hard was it to veneer the inside of the 12? Dose the contact cement that you use adhere immediately on contact or do you get a second chance to straighten it out?)-- Just like any contact cement, You get one shot, and you better get it right. I measured and pre-lined it up multiple times, and I still consider myself lucky)

Thanks for the answer Ron. Sounds very difficult to veneer the inside, hope I never have to do it, lol!

I was wondering the same thing. Trying to line that veneer up to the re-rings top and bottom and keep it square all the while doing it on the interior of less then a 6" radius circle is enough to make me queasy just thinking about it.

As to the extra holes for the spurs, I personnaly have no problem with that. You are making the drum far more useful than it ever would have been with hoop mounted spurs. I am all for keeping things original when it makes sense, but hoop mounted spurs never did. At some point these drums have to be played and drumming has changed a great deal since the shells were manufactured.
