Hey Everyone.

Sorry to leave you hanging for sooo long, But it's funny how real life, and real money seem to take over sometimes. I finished a few drums for a customer, and I'm waiting for a few more to come in. So I had a little time today to get back at it.

I sanded the inside and outside of the all of the drums. The 15 and 24 interior came out so well, that I am planning a trip to the local wood worker supply store to get a mahogany veneer for the inside of the 12. After filling the holes, I was going to try to stain it so the inner ply was at least darker, and not as noticable, but I just couldn't leave it. I want it to match the other drums. I know it won't be exact, and I am not looking to deceive, but I want these drums to be Nice...

I am planning to finish up the 15 and 24 while I wait on a trip to the supply store and getting the 12 ready. I hope I haven't lost my following in the wait, But I promise some pictures real soon.

Thanks, Ryan

I spent some time the last couple days cleaning up the bass drum exterior. I got it down to bare wood. There used to be some home brew white paint with glitter in it. It all needed to go before wrapping. I have decided to wait on wrapping the drums until I have all of the shells ready. So while I'm waiting on that trip to the wood worker supply store, I have started work on the two 8" Timballi toms. I had enough shell to cut re-rings for the top and bottom of them and still have the two shells be about an inch in depth difference. Here are a couple pictures of the WFL shells awaiting Wrap, and the two 8" Shells. One of the re-rings loose. One of the re-rings fit into the drum shell, and one of the re-ring so you can see about how much I had to remove to get the fit right.

Thanks For Looking!

Ryan

Ok guys... These little drums have been a fun project. After the last pictures, I have fit all the re-rings, and glued them in. But before I did that, I stained the interior of the drum shells so that they would have that nice mahogany style vintage look to them. I know that the stain wasn't quite necessary, but I tells ya, I like the details. After the shells were all dry and ready, I cut a double 45 bearing edge. These little drums are going to choke themselves out so they don't need a roundover to help them mellow.

I also made it to the wood store this weekend, and picked up my veneer for the 12. I had to stain it once to get it to the color of the other, interiors, but It should turn out great.

Here are some pictures for you!... First is of the shells all drilled and ready, the second is a close up of the bearing edge on one of the minis, the third is of the little one put together for a dry run, and the last is a picture of the interior of the 12 currently, and the drum is sitting on top of the veneer I will be installing soon....... Thanks, Ryan

Thank you sir. I hope I am keeping this interesting enough to make it worth everyones time. I hope I can keep some of my projects going while I get going on some customer drums. My projects include a 6 ply 13 ludwig tom I will be converting to a 5x13 snare , and I need to get to my Zickos kit someday. (14-16-18 and 24x22 That's 24" Deep!!)

I installed my veneer inside of the 12 today. I used the same contact cement I use for wrapping. It was pretty easy to work with, and I came out with the look I wanted. If you check my last posted pictures, you will see what the twelve looked like before. I am one step closer. I did double seem the inside ply, as the veneer comes in 2 foot widths, and I couldn't see buying the extra length for the inside. It looks so much better. I took a picture of the finished 12 interior, and one of the 12 next to the 15. It is a decent match. In sticking with the details though, I am planning on giving all of the drums a coat of Poly on the inside. That should make tham all look GREAT! ....

Thanks, Ryan
