Hi I'm very new on this forum and I need some help from all the experts here to ID my Pearl set. I just want to know when it was made, and if there is any Pearl catalog can identify my set. The BD is 22" and it has 2 concert toms,2rack toms, 2 FT. It is all fiberglass shell according to the badge. Made in Japan. I know that the brackets on my BD and rack toms and both tom arms are not original and I'm hunting the original parts for now. Some of the stands are not pearl too. Its not clean yet, I will post another picture after cleaning. Please I need more infos about this set.Thank you. band3

Your set first shows up in the 1972 Pearl catalog and goes to 1977.The name for the set is "Big Beat" mounted are 9x13,10x14.floors are 16x16.16x18 the bass is 14x24..The concert toms were added on to the set..As you said the tom mounts on the bass drum are wrong and have been replaced. The mounts on the concert toms should be the "Clip" type they are not the same as the mounted toms mounts. It look like the toms may have the right mounts on them the stand looks to be the right Pearl stand for them......Mikey

Thanks that is really awesome info. Someone told me before that the set was from 1977 but thank you for confirming that. You are right with all the specs, and where do you think the concert toms originally from? The size is 10" and 12" and they are mounted in the clip stand original Pearl. The wrong brackets and arms are in the rack toms 13" and 14" and BD. Do you still have one set available? I'm still waiting for your email and pictures of them. So the one you have is the right brackets and arms for my set? Please send me an email and thank you again :)

Cheers

I have checked the 1972 catalog and can't find the Big Beat set, I found it in 1975 catalog but the BD on my kit is 22" not 24". I found in catalog 1972 the Pearl Artist model F-1S that is closer specs with my kit except that there is no concert toms. What do you think?

Oh yes in the 74-75 catalog you could get the "Big Beat" set with a 22" bass drum and not the 24" for the same price. So that could have happen with your set alot of drum maker's did that with bass drums. Also i have seen many Pearl set's from the 70's that someone added concert tom's to most of the time a 10" and 12" but then agian a set of 6,8,10,12 was very commom too. In the 72 catalog Pearl did a set artist model F-15 but renamed the set in 74-75 to "Big Beat"....I get a set a few month's ago a 1974 set with a 6,8,10,12 added to it...Can you post a photo of the leg mount's on the bass drum that woiuld even help pin point the date of you set.....Mikey

I had that very kit back in the day.... actually had two of them in that configuration. Sold them and bought a set of Tama Superstars. Where did you come across those drums? Be cool if you stumbled across one of my old kits.

I still dabble in fiberglass a bit....;)

Nice pic!!! Is that you in the picture? I think it was own originally from the guy in Victoria BC. So we have exactly the same set? Whats the exact name of that kit? The concert toms really comes with it? Can't find the exact the same set in Pearl Catalog.

The concert toms were an add-on which was very common in the 70's thanks to Neil Peart among others. I had a Big Beat kit in wood-fiberglass from about 1977 or 78. I added a 10-12 concert tom set a couple of years later and then a 6-8 a year after that. I had a lot of fun with that kit. I ordered the concert toms with Vari-Set hardware from the factory as opposed to clip mounts.

You fiberglass drums are built like a tank and should be really loud! Enjoy them.
