That is a cool Premier kit. I never heard of that line, but agree with your bass drum size choice! That makes so much more sense than a deep 16 for example...

Cobalt Blue Yamaha Recording Custom 20b-22b-8-10-12-13-15-16f-18f
Red Ripple '70's Yamaha D-20 20b-12-14f
Piano Black Yamaha Recording Custom Be-Bop kit 18b-10-14f
Snares:
Yamaha COS SDM5; Yamaha Cobalt Blue RC 5-1/2x14; Gretsch round badge WMP; 1972 Ludwig Acrolite; 1978 Ludwig Super Sensitive; Cobalt Blue one-off Montineri; Yamaha Musashi 6.5X13 Oak; cheap 3.5X13 brass piccolo

Thanks Jim! I instantly fell in love with this kit! I have been slapping together different mini-kits for years to mixed (& sometimes hilarious) results. Then I picked up this baby & problem solved. the kick has a way better bottom end than my 18" Yamaha Beech Custom. The only gig where it doesn't cut the mustard is my reggae band & this week I bought an old Apk this week with a 22" kick for fatness and volume. Hopefully this will take care of my GAS for a while 'cause the wife is getting impatient.... Here's a pic of one of my weirder gig kits with a 14" FT converted to kick.

Keep on drummin'

Hello boys and girls! Just a couple comments... first, how's everyone been? Good I hope, haven't been on for a little while since we've been busy.

I've been collecting some 'good' quality power toms for a while... I'm going to slam together a mini-kit... 16" bass, 10" rack and 13" ft... Doing it just for fun, we'll see when I actually get around to it and get it done.

I saw some comments on the Ludwig Cymbals. I've been a fan of old Ludwig 'Standard' cymbals for years. The problem with them is the inconsistency. The smaller ones generally aren't so bad, but the larger can be the nicest large crash or ride you've ever heard, to 'who would want that'. Made by Paiste.

Ludwig Standard 15" hi hats are the best I've ever played... if you've got some, keep 'em. I have a few of 'em. The best thing is they can generally be had for next to nothing, since not many know anything about them.

Here's a pic of my old practice kit (don't have BD & toms anymore). It was an 18" Ludwig New Classic (?) BD, a 10" Renown MT, 13" Ludwig White/Black badge FT and one of my Gretsch snares. Never played it out, but is was fun to play.

This is my Sonor Bop kit 5x14" snare, 16x18" bass, 8x12" mounted tom, 14x14" Floor tom, Paiste cymbals, 14" preserial number 602 soundedge hats. 16" 2002 black labeled medium, 20" medium ride 20'' Black labeled 2002, wfl (2) first generation flat based cymbals stands, ans wfl red seat drummers throne. I have honestly been blown away by this little kit it sounds awesome. we have a lot of tight small stage spaces in my hometown were I play this kit is perfect for just those stages.

Neat!

I have been looking for a 20" RC bass to make a classic jazz kit, but then I got the old Yamaha 20-12-14 kit, so now I'm thinking of converting an 18" RC FT into an 18X14 BD... I guess a 10 up and 13 down would be a sweet little kit with a big sound... It is all money dependant, as restoring this small old Yamaha kit is getting pricy!
