From Euthymia

Following this saga with great interest.I am also a drum-owning guitarist; One thing you haven't mentioned is the freaking number that learning to play drums does on one's head.I find myself wanting to play with other people again, but as a drummer. Kinda messing with my self-identity.For those who have read this far, here's a joke:Q: What's the difference between a guitar player and a savings bond?A: A savings bond will eventually mature and earn money

Did you play drums much in previous bands? Every chance I could get I would **** off my drummer by jumping on the kit and jamming with the other guitarist for a minute, etc. I totally get the number it plays with your head trying to drum.

Great joke. :)

Blair, I think drummers are nicer in general because they have to be a certain kind of person to go through so much s$%t to learn and play an instrument. I mean, you guys have to re-set up your drums EVERY time you move them for practice, gigs, etc. You have ten times as much stuff to carry. They are no fun to play quietly, so you have no choice but to **** off neighbors etc. Not to mention, no one is instantly good at drums, so you have to deal with neighbors who have to listen to you LEARN how to plays drums. Lots of opportunities to build character... I mean it.Then again, as I stated before in this thread, drummers sit in the back because they are inferior. Party Party Party(i kid of course, but no amount of vintage drums will fully take away from loyalty to my fellow guitarists. :) :) )

Wrong,Prong..

Drummers are royalty,as we sit on a throne! Bowing

I would go into our lockout where the drummer kept his kit set up and play by myself.

Didn't do much jamming on drums with other players, just played by myself.

Given the expense of cymbals and new heads, I now fully understand why drummers are so twitchy about other people playing their kits. Some ding-dong smacks your Zildjian too hard the wrong way and there's a $150 cymbal down the drain.

Beautiful kit - and in nice sizes!

Being a guitarist and new to drums made you make a clever move - ask a place like this before staring. I, being a drummer, wasn´t as smart and made a lot of mistakes on the first couple of kits....

A very small thing, concerning the way you fit the floor tom leg mounts:

I prefer them all sitting the same way - with the wingnut pointing to the right. That way, they fall into my hand when working them - me being righthanded. If I were a lefty, I´d probably turn them around.

Practicality must rule!

Welcome to the nice worlds of drumming and drum fixing!

UPDATE:

Yes, I am enjoying restoring this kit.

No, I don't want to look at another piece of chrome or pull any dog hair (human hair!?!?!) out of lugs / tom mounts for a WHILE. haha

The chrome tally: 60-ish lugs refurbished, hi-hat stand, 60-ish lugs/t-handles cleaned polished, throne polished, rings for toms.....,, tom mount...

Prolly watched five football games doing all this!

UPDATE:

This place is evil.

Just bought a Supraphonic. Budget shot. :)

Oh, best part, I had a deal setup for a Speed-King which fell through, and I sold my Pearl pedal. haha.

I will be doing the hole patching and rim repainting on the bass for a while though, so no big deal.

I found the Supra (1971) at used.guitarcenter.com. It MAY turn out to be crap, but it does have a return policy. So, fingers crossed. $199.
