Painted wrap test............

Thanks guys. It's still a work in progress but looks very promising. Once I get my hands on a test shell it'll try it again with a few different types of paint. I think with a shell that's had paint on it for years it might need a little time to work in. That's why I did the longer soak with them covered in chemistry. I'd think a soft brush to get in hard to get places would help a bit. Overall I'm pleased with the results so far.

How you gonna do this with the wrap still on the drum ? You can`t drop the drum into a container and soak it !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

That flame is a foil on clear laminate, will this process separate the two if it gets on the edges ?

Press wash.....Yes it's used in printing to clean/wash the printing ink off the ink rollers/blankets of the printing press. The ink rollers are rubber and ebonite and the blankets canvas backed rubber. So the press wash needs to be strong enough to remove the ink but not melt the rollers and blankets. The VWM wash I used allows up to 50% water added and still be effective as a cleaner on press.

Thanks guys.

I'm not sure Oddball. I'm looking for a old piece of statin flame wrap to try this on. If you or anyone has a old scrap they can donate to the cause it would be great. A small piece 2"x3" or so would be fine as a test. I'd also like to try this one on sparkle and glitter wraps. Also differnet brands and some MIJ wraps too. As many as I can get my hands on to try.

You can use a shop towel, rag, sponge etc.... and just wipe the shell down like you were cleaning it. 1pc I left on the table and wiped it down like this. I let them soak in the bucket for a few hours to see if they'd haze, distort, seperate or melt. On this type wrap it held up fine.

Just to add and I'll leave this open.........

If anyone has scraps of wrap painted or not and can send them to me please do. I'll be happy to try this on them and send them back for you to see and inspect first hand. As I've said it's a work in progress but feel it's worthy of further testing. If anything to see how it reacts to different types of paint and wrap material. When more tests are done I'll have a better feel overall how well this really works. Once I get my hands on a wrapped shell to test that will be the best test. I also plan to try this on modern wrap materials sold today. In the event a painted shell was rewrapped with a modern wrap material I'd like to know how it'll react.

Do you think this would work on enamel and latex paints?

Hey Glenn! Great info! This may save some heartaches for some drummers somewhere down the road.

I'm sure we'll be talking between now and then, but I'll be taking off a piece of modern and vintage sparkle when I rewrap my green Slingerland kit. I'd be glad to donate a piece of each to the cause. You may have to remind me when I get to that point, though. I can be forgetful...too many bumps to the head. Falling Do

Hey Lynn that would be cool thanks~! What color are you going with?

Bigshawn, the paint I used was enamel and I plan to try latex in the near future.
