Cool kit! You decided not to wrap it.....or run out of money as you did it economically?
You always run your small toms tuned that low? sounds like crap alone - then when you play it in context it sounds so much better. Not trying to make a dig, just a cool observation.
I really like how you did all the mounting - and that you have a balance going on. very cool that it is as mobile as I see it is.
May I ask how much was the total cost?
John
Really????????????
Really????????????
Maybe I am off-base here - but this forum member poured into this project and is proud of it enough to share it with us on the forum, as something we may totally dig as well - and nobody responds to it? Maybe it just does not interest (us) enough for any comment - and maybe that is no big deal. (??) At the same time, he would not have posted it if he were not proud of it and also excited about pulling it off - and trying to share with us how he did it so we could perhaps do the same. Yeah - would be cool to know some more of the details, but not surprised he offers no more when nobody seems to give a ____.
If I were him, it would just feel like a kick in the gut.
John
P.S. Before you accuse me of kicking him in the gut regarding the small tom, listen to it on the video...... and also see my clarification. It is what it is (perhaps sounds much better in person?) and I believe that he trusts that I meant no offense and indeed no implication.
Very nice work-and the tiny snare sounds surprisingly good!
Cool kit, sounds good too! I've liked the dual purpose floor tom thing since I saw Glenn Kotche from Wilco go without a true bass drum at a couple shows. Be a great small show kit!

John,
I've posted for the good of the order with one or no responses and never felt slighted. It's the nature of the beast on a blog. I hope that's not how clubdate64 felt cause i'm sure plenty of folks checked out the video and admired the ingenuity that went into the modification of that kit...I know I did. And regardless of whether or not anyone replied to his post, he's got one *****en, low cost, good sounding kit, that will travel easier than any kit I've ever owned:-)
Just my:2Cents:

Clubdate64,
Very cleverly done, and especially nice that you probably do not have that much invested in the kit. What a great idea! As to tuning, I am listening on my iPhone speaker where everything sounds spectacularly mediocre. I am sure it is great.
Very neat. I like the sound of all the drums, and it's obvious you put a lot of thought, time and effort into the project. You could probably get all that into one big gig bag.
Congratulations on a cool kit.
Stephen
I'm not hurt in the least that nobody had originally replied, I figured most guys would have scolded me for drilling a vintage shell. As fir th tuning, I did try to keep it tuned low to not have the seperation between the 8" and the 16" be so great. Originally I wanted to use an 8x10" tom, but it was really unbalanced. I'm still considering trying a pearl firecracker snare but for now cheap is the way to go.
Thats right drilling vintage shells is a NO NO! lol just kidding. I think the floor tom/ bass drum will need 4 legs instead of 3. Get a good drum rug with a loop pile and stick velcro to the bottom of the kick pedal and it wont slip on ya.
OI did this with a vintage 20" slingy floor tom but didnt drill any holes. I never could get the floor tom to sound very good.
