I wrote to Zildjian about them but still haven't heard back. There appear to be no other incidental dots in a U shape about the three dots and two dashes.

Post picture of the stamp instead descrbing " what dot is where" etc.

This will be much easier :)

I think I know what you have.

Well I tried taking pictures in different lighting, but they never seemed to photograph well enough until today. See attached.

According to the stamps in the pictures, I would say these are made in the 1960's - am I right?

Well, I hope to know for sure real soon. I even spoke to someone at Zildjian today and passed the pics along to him as well.

Yeah, I was relying on this article:

So over there - according to the stamps, your stamps matches a 1960's one - but, you did the best thing to contact Zildjian.

Very cool. I did not have that link. I had read descriptions of the various stamps, but had never seen a sit like this with pictures.

I'm not sure I see much difference in the 50's and 60's stamp. What am I missing with this? Maybe with a different picture I can see it.

I would also like to know what this particular set of hats were called, if they were given a special name in the catalog, eg. New Beats, Quick Beats, etc.

Glad that the site is helpful :-)

The difference (which is tricky) between the 50's and the 60's stamp in the site is the 3 dots in the Arabic text. If you take a look, you can see what I mean. In the 60's stamp ( and in yours), there is a triangular shape of 3 dots in the Arabic text.

Generally Zildjian and Hidehitters are not the best resources for stamp ages. Often the people at Zildjian don't know or care about vintage cymbals and Hidehitters is using second hand info. This site is the ultimate resource. Based on the photo and the height you indicated it appears to be an early '60s stamp. The height actually should be closer 1 3/16", not 1 1/4" as you indicate.

The stamp size is also different. 1 1/4" for the '50s stamp you're referring to and 1 3/16" for the early '60's stamp

I dunno man. Mine sure looks like 1-1/4" and not that 1-3/16. Oh wait, it's only 1/16 of a difference?
