Well, I guess, resided in his basement but they snuck out on occasion ,mysteriously and under the cover of darkness, only to return by dawn and with a breath and a sigh of relief that they had not been missed. They provide drums with the wrong kind of keys.
Picking up today - old Sonor teardrop kit - advice?
You lucky bastard.
You are SOOO gonna love the sound of these.
I have the same kit.
They are early 60's New Yorkers.
That wrap is insane. Mine had the gold originally but it was in hard shape and had to be removed.
Take care of this kit. Every one of those lugs is worth $25.
GREAT score.

I picked up the kit tonight and was pleasantly surprised by a couple of things, and a little disappointed in a couple of things - I was hoping those were nice vintage hi-hats, but they're cheap Cambers.
The good news is there are actually 2 rack toms... both the same diameter, but might be slightly different in depth - but here's the weird thing - one has the rollover sticksaver diecast-looking hoops, and the other has similar hoops, but not rolled over like a sticksaver - flanged out like a modern flanged hoop... but looks like it's all Sonor.
One rack tom, the snare and the floor tom all have the smaller "Made in Western Germany" badge underneath the main badge, but the kick and second tom do not. All the wrap seems to match and has aged equally. The tom holder is a double. All mufflers appear to be intact... but again, the muffler on the second rack tom does not perfectly match the first.
The wrap is in overall good shape with the usual odd scuff and scratch like any satin flame will have... no REALLY nasty spots that I've found.
As for other issues, one of the floor tom leg brackets has a broken wing screw - still holds fine, but it's been tightened down with pliers. The BD spurs are perfect, as are the boat mounts. The L-rod holder on the bass drum looks like it replaced the older style "Straight through" type cymbal arm, so there is an extra hole under the mount, but it's hidden perfectly.
The hardware is in decent shape - the BD pedal is amazingly smooth and sweet. Snare stand is missing a bolt, but still works great.
These are for sale, ladies and gentlemen. I will post more photos shortly, but if anyone wants to make me an offer, please PM me.

Oh and almost forgot to mention - snares are non-original, as well as the strainer (replaced with a nice Pearl strainer that fit the original holes).

This is what your set was.It started as a 4 pc someone added the extra tom and tom mount piece. The small tom would be the one that came with the set..The "L" arm cymbal mount is from the 70s not the 60's.The rught cymbal mount and arm would be the mount would be the same shape as the teardrop lug.The mount would have three holes one bigger in middle for the rod and one smaller ones on each side of the mount for the mounting screws/nuts.This mount would have been mounted on the drum with the mounting holes for the screws running up and down.Just think a lug turned sideways on the shell..You say the wing nut on the floor tom mount is no good i have these wingnuts the ones you need i even have the insert for the mount if you need that....Mikey
although drums are catalogued, they are often accessorized by the dealer. this New York kit , although catalogued with a 12 and 13 mounted toms was also available with two different depth 13's.your choice.-----I have the 2 from a kit as well and in the same wrap.
perhaps the choice in Canada was more along those lines too. Trixon didn't make a 12" tom, so they mounted 2 different 13's. Sonor was always in a pitched battle with Trixon , so they may have offered the two 13's as a competitive set. The kit definitely existed ,though. http://www.sonormuseum.com/1969/1969.html
The original owner assured me this morning that he bought them new, as a set... strange. Why would a 5 piece setup include a BD mounted cymbal arm? Why don't the hoops on the 2 toms match?
I believe him though - the wraps are exactly the same, and have aged exactly the same.
For everyone's information, my intention is to sell or trade this kit ASAP - so if anyone wants to talk cash or trades, please PM me.

Bass drum mounted arms were standard on premium European drums until at least the 70's. They were put on in the factory. To get one, without, you would have to order a custom kit either , without the arm mount or assembled with a bass drum from a lower end kit , that was made without one. They can't really be removed effectively, can they?
Some companies offered hi end arms with more articulation in them, so the extra tom was avoided and on some the location of the mount and the length of the mount section of the arm , allowed for some distance.

Well the BD hoop was removed, so there is a chance that he lost all the hoops he took off or sold them and what you see is what he`s found so far. Drop hoops are not easy to find. That BD hoop may have to be constructed.
I can`t see placeing a BD cymbal mount on a two rack mounted kit !! The mount would look just like a drop lug.
