Picking up today - old Sonor teardrop kit - advice?

Loading...

Hey everybody.

Picking up this Sonor kit tonight. According to the owner they were purchased new in the late 60s and have been in his basement since. Due to the nature of the finish, I can't really tell if there are scratches/scuffs, but overall they look pretty good. Snare stand, BD pedal, hi-hat stand and a pair of hats are included.

I know these are from the mid-late 60s, made in West Germany, beech shells. What else can any of you Sonor guys tell me about them?

As far as I can tell, all that's missing is the front BD hoop, t's & claws, and the cymbal rod... if anyone has these parts or can offer advice on where to look, please speak up!

I am going to bring these home, clean them up and most likely sell them. Again, if anyone has any insight or advice on pricing/market value, let me know!

Cheers

Can you post better pics. in better lighting ? That looks like a lot of spaceing on the bottom FT hoop !! Show the snare inside and out with the strainer.

I'm not picking these up until this evening... as soon as I do, I'll post some better photos. These are just the ones the owner emailed me.

I thought that tom mount looked like a double!

PM sent regarding your tom.

Looks to me ( although difficult to tell exactly) , like you have the deeper of the two 13's mounted the wrong way around. I'm basing this on the amount of lug tip overlap. It might be the shallower one you are missing. I have both ------the shallow one( 200mm---- 7 7/8") is totally intact.------------hope it is the same wrap.

What really bugs me about this kit is if they've really sat in his basement since they were new, why all the missing pieces? I would think that most people are smart enough not to throw out hoops, cymbal mounts, extra toms... jeeez. I can almost understand if the kit's been moved around a lot, but this scenario makes no sense to me.
