My grandson is already chomping at the bit to get at these drums. I have been rehabing a ludwig super classics early 60s kit but now I think these exports will do just fine for his beginning/learning. I also have an early/mid 60s round badge Gretsch 12,12,14-14 snare 20 kick that I gathered all parts for and I am going to rewrap those for another grandson. The way things are going maybe I won't have to give those to him. Its becoming harder to talk some grandson into Guitar,Keyboards.

I am not a collector, as all the kits I have are players kits but so far 3 are vintage so even if I don't find anymore kits I,ll be a happy man.

These are the vintage drums.Snare goes with the Gretsches that I wound up giving 150 dollars for. Ludwig wmp were a yard sale find also. Tom

I get it vintage drum bug. Metal is good although I,ve never played it. I listen to Metal genre drummers and most are very good but I think I,ll pass on trying to play it as I,am just an old fella. My wife likes Coldplay, Slip Knop? and others(if they are Metal groups) and without giving her age she,s in her sixties and rules what is played in the truck. Saw her and some grandkids in the ttruck whipping their hair to the music. What can I say.

Slipknot--------although Slip Knob probably applies to them pretty regularily. They are in the genre now known as " screamo. " There is a video on YT of Adelle ,on a British talk show , responding to being played a screamo version of here big hit, Rolling in the Deep.

it wasn't an improvement.

Ok spelled it wrong but what in the world is Screamo? Sounds like what I would do if I met some of those fellas in makeup/costume and after meeting a lot of groups backstage in my time, the drummer for Slipknot really scares the daylights out of me, But, in his defense, he is really an excellant drummer.

Screamo is more aggressive form of Emo which is based off of punk. While I tend to like the instrumental portion of this style IMHO the bands tend to come off as a bunch of kids posing and whining about some topic and which they have no reason to complain about. Which tends to put me off. On second thought the posing and whining could apply to any number of bands. Check out wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamo) if you want the webs consensus on the genre. There is also a list of bands should you care to give some a listen to figure the difference for yourself.

For the record Slipknot is not a Screamo band, they are a metal band. I know the difference may be lost on those that do not listen to heavy/aggressive music, but calling Slipknot a a Screamo band is like calling Thelonious Monk's music rag time. Both fall under a larger umbrella but are not the same.

As someone who devours music across a wide spectrum please remember just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't any good.

have a stellar day all

BTW that is a great find.

I know you were looking for a acrolite sound on the snare but, I would put a coated pinstripe on the snare with a remo muffle ring, tune it up nice and tight and you'll have a solid snare for playing heavy music.

Thanks for the explanation of screamo. I do not dislike any of todays music, my questions are more about learning the types of music being played today.Heck, as you know I have grandkids that I hope will play all types of music as they grow older.

I learn something every day even at my age thanks again for the explanation.
