Very cool!!

This is an unimpressive snare that has remained a mystery over the years. It is still in the same condition as when I got it,(crudely house painted yellow & green). The features that intrigue me are the George Way calf head & the small, turret center post guides. The strainer is 50% missing, & I cannot identify the maker. The inside ply is Maple, w/ the large reinforcement hoops of an earlier age. 10X14"

Maybe CT Pro has seen such marching drum before??

Great forum discussion!! Great to see all these beautiful snares. I just purchased a George B Stone thumb screw orchestra snare off of ebay. The Boston heritage sucked me in and the $200 price seems right. If I over paid... o well... I have a cool piece of drum history. :)
This thread has bad influences on me. :) I just picked up a Joseph Rogers & Son Union Brand Marching Snare Drum for $46 on ebay. It can use some cleaning heads and snare... but it's all there.
I was going to bid on that one, but, I missed the end of the auction!! I`m glad someone from this Forum won it!! Kudos!! That indeed is a nice marcher!!
Cheers
here is an early 1940's Ludwig & Ludwig 10x15. Still has the Ludwig calf heads on it. oddly enough, it has a maple interior which i haven't seen on Ludwigs this old.
