WMP re-wrap?

Just searching for the ultimate re-wrap thread...haven't found it yet. But I did find one disucssing the merits of various colors.

It'll be a re-wrap of a Gretsch Dixieland RB snare. The wrap on it now is a WMP. I don't know if it's the original or not, come to think of it, but a WMP appeals to me.

Precision Drum's "Continental" got two thumbs down. Andy Foote has a zillion colors - too many for me, for this project, there's a lead time, and it's available full sheet only.

Just re-checked, Precision's COntinental is NLA. There IS now an "Antique White Pearl" that's appealing, though.

Any opinion's on a good WMP?

OR, is there a unique wrap for the Dixieland that's pretty danged spiffy. Or a good factory color to use?

I once painted a vintage car a non-factory color just to be stubborn. Lost even more money than usual because or it!!

WHOA!! Stop the presses!

I was just googling* around with the "Dixieland" term and came across this pic: http://www.centerstagem.com/forum/gallery/image/402-6-lug-mid-60s-gretsch-dixieland-snare-restored-april-24-2010/

Major props!! That's pretty fine... and I could spend the re-wrap $ on edges and snare beds, if needed.

Whattya' think!

*"googling", a variation on "chooglin'", with apologies to CCR!

That's one way to go. I just posted a pic in the image gallery of a '59 Ludwig kit that I restored a few months back, and I had the edges done...and wow...they sound fantastic! I am pretty partial to WMP wrap, though. I guess it depends on if you're trying to match is to a kit or just to have a one-off snare.

I'm in the same situation with the WMP. Once I'm back into the kit full swing I need to wrap a 13" tom to match the mellowed WMP bass and floor tom. Will more than likely go with the aged WMP unless I find something closer in the color match system. I don't expect a exact match but wish I was in driving range of DM to visit in person. The aged WMP does look like a easy solution and does say it has a larger chip pattern. That was also a concern with the color match wraps I don't know if it's limited to the smaller pearl chip pattern.

I've been looking for WMP also and although I think I've found the type and bright white color that imitates the 1960s Ludwig wrap. It's by far the nicest WMP I've seen so far, but I can't find a distributor...You can see the wrap on the dw site and they have one of their Classics series kits wrapped in it. I believe it's made by Delmar, but they wont sell you just 3 or 4 sheets.

Well the 3 or 4 sheets thing is too deep for me.

If I plunge at all, I think I'll use the Precision wrap, and have them, or someone from the forum finish it up for me. Maybe I can barter by rebuilding their Speed King!

If you don't already have them, Precision will send you wrap samples if you email them and ask.

The aged white marine is a medium chip, still smaller than original finish. I've done a rewrap on a Radio King I kinda like the color, so I made a couple of drum lights for my new drum room! As for the custom color wrap from Drummaker, be aware that even though they state no minimum order, Delmar needs more than one or two sheets to run a custom color. I've been waiting months for a sheet. There is only a small chip and medium chip pattern available so you won't get an exact match for an existing set but you'll get a very close color match. I don't know why they can't produce the large chip pattern from the old days that's what we want.

This kit from Maxwells is a re-wrap. I couldn't work out which wrap it was but it's similar to vintage WMP I love this look:

From what I've been told, that number from Delmar is 90 full size sheets.
