Hi there
Another neglected instrument, superbly-crafted, needing care and attention.
I've identified it as an Ajax thanks to this great Forum. Apart from the missing badge(!) and a jimmied-in 'Carlton' damper, the rest of the original hardware is present, identified again thanks to this Forum.
I doubt if the original wrap was leatherette as it looks like the old badge was lost/discarded before the leatherette was put on.
I've stripped it down and started cleaning the hardware, but I'd like to wait for / take advice from this Forum regarding procedure with the wrap.
The interior of the seemingly paper-thin shell has been thickly coated (screws and all) with what may be beeswax. There is no serial number stamped on the interior of the shell either, leading me to think it was cleaned off during the re-wrap many years ago.
I've had a look on the web and these did indeed have some extremely cool wraps in their day!
Regarding the damper, I have an age-appropriate damper knob which I may press into service, or replace with new, for now.
Any advice/info would be really appreciated!
Cheers once again!
