Ludwig 100th Anniversary

Loading...

Hello...

As you all might not know, Ludwig is celebrating their 100th anniversary next year. This is a a big event for us vintage guys, whether you play Ludwig or not.

What do you all think Ludwig drums should do for this event?

I know what they have worked on and what is coming, so I wanted to see what the population would expect from Selmer.

Hopefully, a really cool vintage style kit, REALLY like they used to make, maybe a limited short run to make sure it doesn't saturate the market. But in a choice of sizes to appease all that might want one. Not everyone likes a 20, 12, 14, 14x5.

Or maybe even a "custom shop" kind of thing. Kind of like Fender does with guitars. You can build your OWN vintage style setup. Sizes, hardware styles, vintage wraps etc.

The only anniversary thing they've ever done that I liked was the Top Hat & Cane snares.

They should make a 100 or so Top Hat & Cane legacy 3 ply kits, or even just regular shell ones. The handful of kits Jack made with the finish are really cool. And hopefully offer a variety of sizes.

Here's one Jack made with an 18" Bass drum

I don't know what to expect from Ludwig these days. I hope they recreate some older designs, but I don't see how they can without charging way too much money.

I like the top hat and cane but I always find it odd to see it on Ludwig sets with classic lugs. The Ludwig family had nothing to do with top hat and cane. Did'nt that finish appear around 1940? WFL was in full swing by then and Conn had the Ludwig and Ludwig name. Maybe it is ok with the Conn-selmer ownership now. It still seems wierd to me.

I have always thought Ludwig should have a custom shop so that one could make a real vintage style 1960's-70's set. I like fold out spurs, correct claws and cymbal mounted bass drum holders. I love the rail mount as well and think that should come back. Should be an interesting year for sure...

Ludwig's 25th Anniversary snare drum came out in 1936. This was Ludwig and Ludwig, when owned by Conn. Wouldn't the 100th anniversary then be 2011??

Dang it Rich K.. they probably ordered a big ice cream cake shaped like a drum kit.. that's going to be a mess to send back.:D

Hmmmm... I guess I'm showing my age but this surprised me as the 100th anniversary kit.

As “the most famous name on drums” moves into its 100th Anniversary in 2009, Ludwig Drum proudly announces the limited collaboration Ludwig Corey Miller Signature Element Drum Kit. These special edition inaugural kits will only be available for a short time at select Ludwig dealers, and have a sound that is as dangerous as their look.

Technically they started in 1909, then ran into troubles and officially did re-start the company in 1911.

So that is why they are using the 1909 and not 1911 to mark the 100th anniversary.

So is what they're doing a done deal? How much impact does our response have?

Ah geez, the cause is lost. They think their salvation is appealing to the tats-make-a-drummer crowd. This is really disappointing.
