All of my regular gigging kits are rewrapped. No worries about bumps and bruises and relatively low cost. I have nice original kits as well, but they stay at home except when I want to give them some exercise.

Small, medium, large, depending on the venue, these are in regular rotation.

The 20-12-16 silver glass kit is a group of early b&b Jasper 3-ply shells. Already modded for beavertail lugs, I used later Fullerton clip lugs and modified memriloc hardware. The m/l mounts all had the extended tubes cut off: this allowed them to be attached to the shell without the large holes and the mounts/tubes/arms protruding inside. A pair of well-worn memriloc spurs were cut to the right length, as well as the upper and lower tubes for the tom arm. The 12" tom hangs on a Rims mount as well. Standard m/l legs on the floor tom. I have at least 250 gigs on this kit.

The other 2 are XP8 kits: 18-12-14 and 24-14-18. No mods except for the rewrap.

By the way, the badges on the 2 XP8 kits are polished Eagle badges. I don't care for Big R badges and the Eagles look pretty cool, very contemporary and attractive.

Thanks, gonna do my first snare drum conversion next week with a 50's era 16x16 Radio King shell that I picked up real cheap. The nice mahagony shell should sound killer as a rope tension snare. Excited

Finished and delivered this morning!

Cherryvale (KS) Middle/High School Drum Line.

(Here I go again -- not really vintage, just 20 year old drums that have been repaired and rewrapped. Sorry, no "before" pictures!)

Bill,

I am quite certain that is one happy band director and six happy young percussionists! You are a good man sir.

Here is an early 60's student model Slingerland six lug snare. It had been spray painted orange by a previous owner so I was able to get it pretty cheap. Slingerland always seemed like the "marine pearl company" to me so that is what I did. The badge is the original spray-painted badge.

...and here is a Ludwig Jazz Festival snare that a friend of mine gave me. Originally it was green sparkle, but that was faded to the point where I decided that it warranted a re-wrap. Otherwise the drum is on near mint condition. White interior. Sky Blue Pearl wrap. When I finished this drum I was in such a hurry to take a photo that I put the bottom hoop on incorrectly. After the photo I rectified that problem of course.

Here is my 68' Ludwig Standard. Was a very trashed blue astro. Carefully stripped, and professionally laquered. I have the matching snare, but this one, a WFL 57' is just a bit richer. Love 'em.

Further to my other post (#31) I've just completed refinishing my 1994 RBS-1 kit. This kit originally had a transparent black rubbed oil finish (alcohol-based toners w/ stain added and topped with Lemon Oil). Unfortunately it, and some of the other colours available at the time, had a tendency to fade - in the black's case, to a brown colour as seen in the first picture. The new finish (two coats) is called Vermont Maple - one of Minwax's water-based wood stains. The protective finish (three coats) is their Polycrylic Clear Satin.

09-23-2012 Further to the above, just completed refinishing the matching snare which I got last month.

1994 RBS-1 - 10"-12"-14"-16"-22" w/matching 6"x14" snare
mid-'90s Pearl free-floating, brass-shelled 5"x14" snare
1963 Rogers COB 7-line Dyna-Sonic 6 1/2"x14" snare
