Orangemi,

That Slingerland 18/12/14 is incredibly cool. Who wouldn't want to adopt those orphans?!! Well done!

Thanks! They sound and play as good as they look, really my favorite drum set. I have 12x20; 16x14 (that's 16" deep) 3 ply orphans that I'm in the process of matching to another 8x12 for a mini big band set.

Never play it the same way once.

I too only have afters. Thanks to Ralf, my refinished set is posted here on VDF. They are on Drum image Gallery under Star Drumset in Turquoise Sparkle. Thanks again, Ralf!

This has project potential for anyone looking to tackle a rewrap and paint removal. To me, the price is a tad high but decent because of the ability to end up with a newly wrapped 20/12/14 70's SSB Gretsch kit. Especially the 14" FT. I've got too much going on right now so I'm just passing it along:

I built this set from a couple of Rogers XP8 orphans and a 14x14 Keller 8 ply shell. The two Rogers shells were a 16x18 floor tom and an 8x12. I did the initial wrap in 2001/2002 during the winter, and installed Swivo Spur mounts on the BD, and Fullerton cast Swivo mounts on the Floor Tom. Later I installed a Rogers Swivomatic Single Tom and Cymbal Rod mounts. This past year, I installed a center located straight Swivo mount for the Tom, utilizing the other two mounts for telescoping cymbal rods with Swivomatic Tilters and extensions. I have 2.3 mm non Rogers hoops, all lugs are Rogers Fullerton era C Clip small Beavertails. I used 3m High Strenth 90 laminate spray adhesive for the wrap. Ten years and no pulls, bubbles, or seam deterioration.

The hardware is worth much more than the drums as a set.

Sound Percussion 3pc kit, rescued from a thrift store for $25!! It was wrapped in basic black and bubbled all over! Re-wrapped in beautiful Dark Abalone Pearl from Jammin' Sam. This finish is no longer available. Naturally, I built a matching snare drum using a 4.5x14 Keller shell I already had. A really cool little kit, consisting of:

14x20 6-lug bass drum

8x12 4-lug rack tom

15x15 5-lug floor tom

The Abalone Pearl is incredibly rich looking!

Another re-wrap! This one had a bass drum and floor tom from a Slingerland POP outfit, with 16x14 single-head floor tom. A lower bearing edge was installed, along with 8 Sound King lugs. The rear 16x16 tom was a Pearl Export. Again, I custom built the snare drum using a Keller shell. The 9x13 rack tom is also a Slingerland. All wrapped in White Pearl. I should have kept the narrow-base Buddy Rich cymbal stands!
