Don't forget to practice on a orphan shell. You will gain a lot of confidence after you have done it a few times. I didn't put that in my thread. I filled several holes in a shell before I actually filled the holes in the drums I was repairing. Experimented with the step drill bit and different size holes. I drilled my holes out a tiny bit larger of the plugs and plug covers to fit exactly.

The hardware is clean!!! I am studying poppy's repair method thread and getting ready. I have parts in the mail and some i picked up from Blair. I still need quite a few parts but things are coming along nicely. Bought some Novus 2 today and will go over the shells again with it. Any thoughts on heads for this kit?

I remembered I have an old Rogers shell in the garage that I sawed in half to do repair work. (Don't worry! It was already messed up) I will probably just take my plug from that. The thickness seems to line up nicely. I am getting excited!

What about those heads boys!?! What should I throw on her? Especially the bass drum.

Do you have Novus 1 to go with Novus 2? The #2 is not the finishing product. You can remove light scratches with #2 and then polish with #1

Everything is clean!!! I have been doing a ton of cleaning and getting parts. I am close to being ready to put it all together. I am going to redo the hoops this weekend. Still searching for a front logo head. What would that look like for a late 50"s kit? Anyone got one? Been looking at these holes more and getting a plan together......still!

There are plenty of die-cut vinyl logos available on eBay. It will be very easy to pick up a Slingy logo in black. Make certain it is die cut vinyl though. Then you can adhere it to whatever head you want. I believe there are two sizes of Slingerland logos and you would want the smaller one, however, if that is incorrect I am sure that someone here will correct me.

Remo bass drum heads have their logo stamped at the top (I wish they would figure out that stamping there is a nightmare) so that will need to be removed prior to placing your logo. Easy enough on smooth white or clear heads, but there has been lots of talk about how to do that on coated or Fiberskyn heads. I have not seen them do it, but my employees swear they had no problem removing the Remo logo from 50+ coated heads simply using acetone. They couldn't tell me if the coating stayed on though. Cool project.

Got my hoops finished today! Thanks to all the great threads here at the VDF!!!

I am actually in need of a couple more strips of inlay for my other set of hoops. Anyone have any I can buy or know a good spot to get it?

For inlay strips it is tough to beat Jammin Sam's.

Finally got back to it today! I had to set this project aside to get some funds together for tools and what not. I ended up using a plug cutter to make my holes 5/8 around. This worked really well. I did not use a 5/8 plug cutter though. I used a 1/2 plug cutter. That made the actual diameter of the hole 5/8. I still cut plugs with the 5/8 cutter to make actual plugs to fill the hole with. You can get a 4 pack of plug cutters for like $10.

I also could not find a hollow punch for the life of me. I asked my wife who scrapbooks for a hobby if she had anything that could cut a perfect 5/8 hole. She got me this hole punch. (See pic below) It worked quite well. You had to work at it a little because of the thickness of the wrap but the circles were perfect. I probably could have warmed the wrap up to make it easier.

I didn't glue anything yet because Ive never used epoxy like this so I am getting myself ready for that. Feeling good about where I am though. Thanks for all the good info and threads. Check back as I progress on this project.

Now if I could just learn how to rotate these pictures so they appear correctly.

Looking good!! I would test that glue to make sure it drys clear before useing it on your plugs. I noticed that glue you have said it dries with a pigment or chalk or something. I had some epoxy that dried white and had a terrible time getting it off my wrap. Actually had to dremmel it off and it was just a nightmare. I have since had excellent luck with that white elmers glue we used in school. You can easily wipe off any excess seepage and it dries clear. Just my 2 cents. I am sure others have there process and glue ideas.
