Here are my marching snares:
unknown 20 x 16
1969 Ludwig 8 x 14
1976 Eames 16 x 14
1997 Cooperman 16 x 16
Your unknown 20X16 is interesting because this is the real size of the old time rope drums. Could you upload some photos of this snare showing the strainer, & some close up details (the rope holes on the hoops, carrier hook, metal parts).
Have you hit most of the rope drum sites to identify your snare ?
I might be able to take pics of it this weekend.
All I know about it is my Dad purchased it back in the 50s from the Spirit of '76 fife & drum corp in Springfield, MA when the group disbanded.
Unlike the Eames and Cooperman, there is no paper label on the inside.
I actually have not checked any sites to ID the snare. Which would you recommend?
This may be a good place to start research on Field Drums.

Looks like a lot of good info. I've got some reading to do!
Here's one field/marching drum you might have seen before. :)
This is the original field drum used by the center character in Archibald M. Willard's painting, Yankee Doodle or also known as The Spirit of '76.
It's part of the collection at The Spirit of '76 Museum in Wellington, Ohio. I don't own the drum, but I'm a trustee/board member that manages the museum's collection. Everytime I see it, I'm still amazed that this drum survived and is actually on display.
Thanks,
Tim
