My Summer Project Find!!! Help Please!

Loading...

Well school is out and I am off work. I needed something to do and found it today. I picked this kit up from a friend. I usually wouldn't buy something like this that has been drilled for a double tom mount but since the holes were small I figured I would give it a shot. My first time plugging holes. These are only about 5/8 so it shouldn't be to bad. Any recommendations or better yet if you can send me the link to past threads I know they're out there. I am also wondering what is original and what isn't other than the double tom mount. Let me list my questions.

1. Was there a rail mount on here at one time? Is that what the two holes are to the one side?

2. Are the matching brackets on each side cymbal mounts?

3. What mount goes on the ride tom. Looks like they had put a ludwig mount on and drilled extra holes there.

Will post another couple pics below. Ran out of room.

I will make a list of what I need and put it in the "want to buy" section so please if you have it shoot me a PM and let me know.

As Always Thanks So Much!

Curtis

I want to show my progress through this whole process so....Here is where I got tonight. Got home stripped these gals down and started cleaning the shells. They will look pretty decent when finished. I noticed the 13" had a little movement to the re-ring so I glued it down and clamped it for 24 hrs. Tomorrow I (try to) tackle the holes!!!

You need a bit that drills plugs from wood (plug cutter). And also a variable size bit (stepped) Makes the job really easy. Use the stepped bit to make the holes perfectly round, to the size of the plugs. If you can get a nice piece of maple to cut the plugs from, I think it makes it all nice inside too. Good luck - they look well worth it.

Nice little set you got.Now on to your questions As far as the tom mount to bad that someone added a C.B. 700 tom mount to the top of the drum..Anyway thats a easy fix.In photo to the two holes were for the tom mount most likey a W&A mount if i recall right the hole spacing is 4 and 5/8st of a inch..The two brackets were for "L" arm cymbal mounts the one on the tom side mount would be longer than the one on the left side of the drum that one would be a short one a ride cymbal would go their..The parts that you are missing are two "U" shape pieces and the wing nuts..Oh i fotgot to say on the mounted tom mount the drum would have a diamond shape mount that would go into the 4 small holes.....Mikey

I like those. That's going to be a nice set. I am looking forward to following this project. Are you going to try and cover the plugs with wrap? I have some 1964 red glitter wrap I removed from a tom if that is what your wrap is, that you could cover the plugs with if you go that route. Not sure if that is glitter or sparkle on yours. The wrap I have looks the same I think as the pic with the badge. I could cut a envelope size piece and send it to you.
