Slingerland "Bop" Kit...

Loading...

The Bass Drum (12x18) and Floor Tom (12x14) were rebuilt from old Slingerland Marching Drums rescued from a metal shed in Chanute, KS.

The 8x12 was rescued from a warehouse in Tulsa, OK.

Had originally intended that this be a "Jet" type of reproduction, but decided to go with the natural wood hoops on the bass drum after I had decided to go with the PSA cherry-wood veneer.

Nice save!! I really like the finish. How does that 8x12 sound?

I'll appreciate some info concerning what you referred to as "PSA cherry wood veneer." Did you apply another veneer of wood to those shells?

Yes. PSA stand for "pressure sensitive adhesive." More info on this stuff is mentioned in this thread (2nd page):

No Pearl mount for the tom (the Yamaha Stand will have to do). The FT leg brackets are as far as that goes. The Slingerland ones were just too expensive -- didn't want to invest the arms and legs to get them... :)

This veneer was prefinished, darker than a "natural" cherry.

I did a Ludwig Rockers set in an unfinshed cherry veneer, which I just clear-coated. You can see it in this thread:

Thanks for the info on PSA wrap. I'm glad it had no reference to the other PSA (prostate specific antigen)

I'd never heard of it. What is the source and is it applied with contact cement, as with other wraps, or is it a taped joint type application?
